Rola Abu Manneh

Rola Abu Manneh

Chief Executive Officer, UAE

Rola Abu Manneh was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank UAE in August 2018.

In her previous role, Rola was Head of Corporate & Investment Banking for Abu Dhabi at First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) where she managed relationships between FAB and its key client base, including the government, government-related entities, elite customer groups, family corporations, local corporations and multinational corporations. Prior to that, Rola served as General Manager of FAB Wholesale Banking Group, which comprised of Project Finance Syndications, Financial Institutions Group and Global Transaction Banking.

A UAE national, Rola completed her studies at the University of London – Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, and has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics & Operational Research degree.

Sonny Zulu

Head of Retail Banking, UAE

Sonny was appointed Managing Director, Retail Banking in January 2019. He is responsible for Wealth Management, Retail Products and Distribution across Priority, Premium, Personal and Islamic segments.

Prior to this role, he was the Regional Head of Strategic Transformation, Alliance and Performance Management for Africa and the Middle East at Standard Chartered Bank. Before relocating to Dubai, Sonny was the Head of Retail Banking for Standard Chartered Bank Zambia and Southern Africa. He took up senior leadership responsibilities at a very young age and he has held a number of senior executive roles in the Bank which included Head of Retail Clients, General Manager for Distribution for Zambia and Southern Africa and Head of Corporate Affairs.

As an entrepreneur, Sonny is a joint owner of Air Mafuta Aviation Services which supplies aviation fuel to local and international clients.

Sonny holds an MBA from Manchester Business School and a degree in Metallurgy and Mineral Processing from the University of Zambia.

Mohammad Ali Allawala

Head of Retail Islamic Banking (Saadiq), UAE

Mohammad Ali Allawala is the Head of Retail Islamic Banking (Saadiq) in UAE.

With over 2 decades of international experience in conventional and Islamic Banking, Mohammad has worked in 5 markets across Asia, Africa, and Middle East (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Malaysia, Egypt, and Pakistan) with Standard Chartered, Citibank, and Samba Financial Group. He possesses a comprehensive scope of work in eight multi-dimensional markets including United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Malaysia, Bahrain, Kenya, and Indonesia. He has performed senior management roles including Chief Executive Officer, Head of Retail Banking, and Cards Business Manager.

Mohammad has a proven track record of managing businesses of size and scale, with expertise in launching new Markets, Products, Distribution, Lending, Digital banking, Remittance, Payments, Wealth Management, and Marketing - across products and geographies. He has a keen interest in digital banking and payment solutions. Recognized as ‘Best Islamic Retail Banking Group’, ‘Best Digital Islamic Bank’, and ‘Best Islamic Consumer Banker in Pakistan’.

A thought leader and advocate of Sustainable Finance, he is also an elite communicator skilled in cultivating client and stakeholder relationships with effective record of creating long-term business alliances.

Mohammad holds an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, Pakistan.

AD Ganesh

AD Ganesh

Regional Head, Commercial Banking, Africa & Middle East

Ganesh is presently Regional Head, Commercial Banking, AME.

Prior to this role, he was Head of STF for Africa, Americas & Europe and also the Head of Corporate Finance for Europe.

Ganesh joined the bank in India in 1996 and has done various client coverage roles in India, MENA and Africa before moving to Corporate Finance in December 2009.

He has been covering Africa since 2007 and has been based in London since July 2013.

Ganesh graduated in Commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi and is a Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant and Company Secretary.

Mohamed Salama

Managing Director,
Head of Global Banking, UAE

Mohamed Salama joined Standard Chartered in October 2016, as the Head of Global Banking, UAE.

Prior to joining the Bank, Salama has been performing similar responsibilities with HSBC Bank Middle East, as the Head of Dubai and Deputy Head of Global Banking, UAE.

Salama served more than two decades in Corporate and Investment Banking, with leading international banks in the financial industry; covering central governments, sovereign wealth funds, financial sponsors, financial institutions, as well as large cap public, private and multinational companies, in various sectors.

Salama started his professional career in 1997 with HSBC Bank Egypt, joining the Executive Training Program, and subsequently progressing in various positions within the Corporate Banking division. He then joined Barclays Bank Egypt, in 2004, heading the Government, Conglomerates and Large Industrial Corporates division. In 2007, he moved to the United Arab Emirates to work for HSBC Bank Middle East, under the Global Banking and Markets business.

Salama earned his bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Commerce – English Section, Cairo University; and holds his Master of Business Administration from the Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University.

Motasim Hasan Iqbal

Motasim Hasan Iqbal

Managing Director & Head of Transaction Banking, UAE

Motasim Iqbal was appointed the Managing Director & Head of Transaction Banking, UAE for Standard Chartered Bank in January 2017. He is responsible for the Bank’s Cash Management, Trade Finance and Securities Services Business for the UAE.

Prior to this role, Motasim was the Regional Head for Transaction Banking in MENA and prior to that during 2012-15 he was the Head of Transaction Banking for the Bank in Singapore. During his stint in Singapore he worked very closely with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) on positioning Singapore as a premier Renminbi clearing centre outside China.

Motasim joined the Wholesale Banking business at Standard Chartered in October 1997 and was appointed the Head of Transaction Banking for Pakistan in 2003. In 2006, he moved to Dubai to head the Financial Institutions segment within Transaction Banking across MENA & Pakistan. Prior to joining Standard Chartered, Motasim began his career as an Assistant Manager in the Treasury Division of Shell Pakistan Limited.

Motasim holds an MBA degree from the Institute of Business Administration in Karachi. He has also attended various leadership programs including Leading Across Boundaries at Oxford Said Business School, Business Leadership Planning course of the Nottingham Trent University and a senior level executive course at INSEAD Singapore.
