"SCB gives me engaging roles to use my skills and the ground to be creative and innovative."

Anish LALCHANDANI
Project Manager,
Finance Systems,
Wholesale Bank

What is your background?
I completed most of my studies in India, Delhi. I obtained an MBA major in Human Resources, and was certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by Project Management Institute. I started my career in a US multinational company's Consumer Finance business. I then joined a subsidiary of Standard Chartered, Scope International (India), with my work focus on Operations and Projects, and subsequently applied successfully to work in the Bank.

Why did you join Standard Chartered?
I was attracted by the opportunities to work with great leaders and to learn from them. During my job interviews, I was impressed by the passion the interviewers showed for the Bank and for their jobs. I have now worked in the Bank for a few years, and I am still excited with the opportunities available for me to learn and grow.

How is your career so far in the Bank?
It has been a rewarding learning journey! I joined Scope International (India) as a Project Manager being responsible for migrating in-country HR processes of the Bank into Scope International as a Shared Service Centre. In this project I worked with many senior leaders and benefited from their experience, decision-making approach and implementing skills. The project also gave me exposure to change management and quality improvement. This enabled me to move later into the Group Finance Systems to join their change programme in SCB.

What does your current role entail?
I am now part of the Wholesale Banking (WB) Finance Future Operating Model team based in Singapore. We work on projects to design and improve processes to enable WB Finance to be an effective partner of the business. The aim of these projects is to achieve standardisation and scalability for our finance systems and processes globally. During implementation, cross-functional collaboration is necessary, and so we work closely with in-country teams involved.

What do you like about your job?
I have the chance to work on multiple projects at the same time, and it is challenging to manage different stakeholders in different geographies and time zones. Each project brings immense learning opportunities, and it is great to work with a team with diverse background.

What is it like to work at Standard Chartered?
The sky is the limit. SCB gives me engaging roles to use my skills and the ground to be creative and innovative. I could change my work focus from HR to Finance and transfer from India to Singapore with a set of core capabilities. The Bank has provided me with the opportunities and environment to learn and grow. What set Standard Chartered apart from the other employers are work culture and leadership.
