"Overall, I find Standard Chartered a very supportive organisation; straight forward and very focused in customer satisfaction."
Orlando FERRO
Director,
Aircraft Leasing Finance,
Wholesale Bank
What is your background?
I am a mechanical engineer by training. Before I joined Standard Chartered, I dedicated 28 years of my career to an aircraft manufacturer (based mostly in Brazil), but working in many regions of the world. Through an assignment in Beijing, I found that I really liked Asia.
Why did you join Standard Chartered?
There are three things that appealed to me to join Standard Chartered Bank. First, being able to work in Asia again; second, the opportunity to excel in another industry; and third, the challenge presented by Standard Chartered's target to be the top five players in aircraft finance in Asia. Standard Chartered Bank is highly competitive in the aviation finance market with its international network.
How is your career so far in the Bank?
I joined Standard Chartered in February 2007. It is by far a very enriching journey. Now that I am on the other side of the table, it is good that I do not get the flak I used to give my bankers when I was with my previous employer! It helps that I am well respected in the aviation industry before I joined the Bank.
What does your current role entail?
My main responsibility is in Aircraft Finance. Meeting with clients and tailoring the perfect financing solution for them is my prime objective. We work together to ensure that the solution is balanced for the client. As I am in a North East Asia region role, I can efficiently assist my clients thanking the short journey to reach them.
What do you like about your job?
Gaining the trust and building a long lasting relationship with our customers give me the most satisfaction. Knowing that the Bank invests a good budget to this business also encourages me to strive hard to achieve the Bank's target.
What is it like to work at Standard Chartered?
It has been very challenging and I am learning a lot about banking systems. I was slightly disoriented initially as banking has a different set of glossary to that of aviation! Overall, I find Standard Chartered a very supportive organisation; straight forward and very focused in customer satisfaction.
