Banking Talent Programme

About the programme:

The Banking Talent Programme is a joint initiative between the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and Standard Chartered Bank Hong Kong (Limited) to nurture young talents for the industry and provide participants with an opportunity to better prepare for future careers in the banking sector. The Programme targets fresh graduates from local universities who will be offered six-month full-time opportunity and industry-specific training.

Eligibility

  • Students in the final year of their bachelor’s degree graduating from local universities.
  • Candidates must have the legal right to work on a permanent basis in Hong Kong. The Bank does not sponsor work permits for this programme.

Corporate Summer Internship Scheme

The Scheme on Corporate Summer Internship on the Mainland and Overseas is a joint initiative between the HKSAR Government, Standard Chartered Bank Hong Kong (Limited) and 17 other major companies in Hong Kong

About the Internship:

  • It will take place during end June or early July for six weeks. Interns will spend one week in Hong Kong and five weeks in mainland China where we have presence.
  • All interns will join a Standard Chartered country induction, receiving a welcome to the Bank.
  • During the internship, interns will be exposed to the inner workings of our business to provide real work experience.
  • High performing Interns will be eligible for placement in the Bank’s Global Internship Programme in Hong Kong for the year after.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have the legal right to work in Hong Kong and have valid Mainland Travel Permits for Hong Kong and Macao Residents.
  • Interns must be in their second year of study.
  • The Bank does not sponsor work permits for the purposes of Internships.

How to apply:

  • Students who are interested in applying for corporate internship placement offered by SCB HK under the Scheme should submit his/her application through the Government's central online application system (ydc.gov.hk/scsi/).  Standard Chartered Bank Hong Kong will not be accepting applications directly from students at this stage.
  • Applicants who are interested in working at Standard Chartered Bank will need to go through the Bank’s standard online assessments as part of the selection process.

 

 

Fintech Career Accelerator Scheme (FCAS)

The Fintech Career Accelerator Scheme ("FCAS") is a talent development scheme launched by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) in 2016 to expand the fintech talent pool in Hong Kong. This is a full-time, semester-based internship where interns will work on fintech projects for one year. 

About the programme:

  • Work on a wide range of fintech projects which may include distributed leger technologies, artificial intelligence, payment, regtech and cyber security.
  • Close collaboration with business stakeholders to bring new and innovative products to the market, responsible for analysis, design, development, and implementation of the products.
  • Support the eXellerator’s pipelines and activities.
  • Support the Bank’s fintech accelerator, facilitate application selection process, project coordination and networking activities.
  • Run awareness programme to promote fintech and innovative culture within the Bank.
  • Conduct detailed, in-depth marketing research and data analysis.
  • Organise employee volunteering activities to encourage the Bank’s staff to participate in community events and contribute to society.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects and tasks as required.

Eligibility

  • Students who are in their 2nd or 3rd year of undergraduate study.
  • All disciplines are welcomed.
  • Strong interest and motivations to learn and explore Fintech.
  • Good command of written and spoken English

PWMA Apprenticeship Programme

About the programme:

Private Wealth Management Association apprenticeship which is co-organised by HKMA and PWMA, provides university students with “front-to-back” experience in the private wealth management business for sixteen weeks. The students will work in a range of functions at our Private Banking business, learning about different product knowledge, client services, as well as risk management, compliance and internal control. The experience gained through this programme will provide students a solid foundation for a career in the industry of private wealth management

Eligibility

  • Students in any disciplines, not limited to finance or business, are encouraged to apply for the Programme.
  • any full-time students in their second to third year of study, at any universities funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC) are welcome to apply.

Singapore

Work Study Programme - Singapore

Work-Study Programme allows students to acquire deep, work-relevant skills, which will help students better transit to the workplace upon graduation. This is achievable by closely integrating classroom learning with structured on-the-job training.

About the programme:

  • Allows students to gain a strong grounding of theory in real work environment, enhancing your job-readiness upon graduation.
  • Gain an opportunity to learn more about your sponsoring company’s work culture.
  • The Work-Study Degree (WSDeg) will generally be delivered in either of two modes:
    • Term-in/Term-out: students alternate between spending one to two terms (or trimesters) in university and at our workplace; or
    • Work-day/Study-day: students alternate between working a few days of the week with us, and studying for the remaining days of the week.

Eligibility:

To apply for a work study programme position, you must have the legal right to work on a permanent basis in Singapore for the full duration of the internship.

Students must be in the participating universities and studying in the relevant field of degrees.

The Bank does not sponsor work permits for the purposes

Evaluation:

All work study students participating in the work-study programme will be evaluated during their employment. Evaluations will be used with an aim to provide an extension contract or permanent offer before the completion of the work study programme.

Programme – SGUnited Traineeship Programme

The SGUnited Traineeships programme provide traineeship opportunities lasting up to 12 months to those who have recently graduated or will soon be graduating in 2019 and 2020. This will help trainees develop industry-relevant skills, notwithstanding the current economic climate, and boost their employability in preparation for the eventual recovery.

 About the programme:

  • Allows students or graduates to gain a strong grounding of theory in real work environment, enhancing their job-readiness.
  • Traineeship opportunities lasting up to 12 months to those who have recently graduated or will soon be graduating in 2019 and 2020.
  • Clear Traineeship Descriptions and Development Plans would provide trainees with meaningful developmental opportunities during the traineeship period

Eligibility:

To apply for a work study programme position, you must have the legal right to work on a permanent basis in the country for which you’re applying for the full duration of the internship.

Applicants who have recently graduated or will soon be graduating in 2019 and 2020.

Our Apprenticeship Program focuses on developing diverse talent for the future needs of our business and clients.  Our greatest strength is our diversity which is the foundation of our program.

About the programme:

  • Achieve a nationally recognised qualification, varying from 18 months to 4 years.
  • You will receive support throughout, both from your own team and mentors within the wider community at Standard Chartered.
  • Opportunities to broaden your skills beyond your area of work through participation in varied events and projects.
  • Community involvement, including opportunities to grow from volunteering and supporting those within our local communities.

Virtual Insight Events

We encourage you to attend our virtual Insight Sessions held throughout the year.  They offer you the opportunity to gain an understanding about who Standard Chartered is, our values and to ensure we are the right company for you.  It also gives you a chance to meet the Early Careers team and those who support and develop our apprentices.  You will learn about the application process and get an insight into our assessment process with an open Q&A forum for any questions you may have.

UK Eligibility

To comply with requirements of the apprenticeship levy, applicants must:

  • Must have the right to work in England
  • Must spend at least 50% of their working hours in England
  • Must not hold a qualification that is equal or higher than the apprenticeship qualification in the same or a related area of study.
  • Must not be enrolled on another apprenticeship or Department for Education funded program as from their date of start.

Completion

Throughout your apprenticeship, Career Pathway sessions will focus and support you in achieving your career ambitions.  Although employment is not guaranteed beyond your apprenticeship, we strive for deployment into permanent employment within the Bank.  Following completion, you will be encouraged to develop the next generation of apprentices through Ambassador programs and mentoring.

London Spring Insight Programme

  • Our renowned Spring Insight Programme takes place in London each April and is designed to provide candidates with a special taster of what a career in financial services is like
  • Through time spent rotating with Financial Markets, CCIB Coverage, Corporate Finance, Transaction Banking, and Risk, students have the opportunity to fully explore which function fits their skillset best before selecting where they would like to complete a Summer Internship
  • The structured programme also provides a mixture of lecture-based sessions, exercises, and extensive networking
  • Students who excel will be extended an offer immediately to join us on our London Summer Internship Programme the following year in their preferred department

Eligibility

Candidates must be in their first year of undergraduate study (or second year of a four-year course)

Evaluation

Participants will be evaluated during the week long placement for a place on our Summer Internship Programme in London the following year. This in turn is a pipeline for our exclusive International Graduate Programme.
