Financial Markets

Overview

Our Financial Markets team has expertise combined with deep local market knowledge to deliver a variety of risk management, financing and investment solutions to our clients. We have capabilities across origination, structuring, sales, trading and research. Offering a full suite of fixed income, currencies, commodities, equities, capital markets and loan syndication solutions.

Your training

As an International Graduate in the Financial Markets, you will be focused in your chosen business stream, while training and business rotations into connected streams will give real context to your role. You will gain hands-on experience across four rotations, where you are an integral part of a team to help deliver solutions for our customers. Here are some projects you could be involved in:

  • Analyse and create pitchbooks, confirming client deals and coordinating client events as part of our Sales teams
  • Price, test, develop and roll-out new products as part of our Structuring teams
  • Provide insights on balance sheet movements, report changes in liquidity profiles and track Trading desk funding profiles as part of our ALM teams
  • Support senior desk members executing and inputting hedging trades and provide pricing to sales desks as part of our Trading Teams

Your career progression

At the end of your 18-month programme, you’ll join a role within Financial Markets. This could be in areas such as:

  • Trading
  • Sales
  • Structuring

What you’ll do over 18 months

1 Month International induction

This comprises of classroom sessions, case studies, and tailored technical training split by business stream.

11 Months training rotation

You will spend three months in your focus area and go on to broaden your experience with further two months rotations in Global Banking, Corporate Finance*, Transaction Banking and Risk.

6 Months Business rotation

Your last rotation will be six months in your focus area in Financial Markets. It’s your chance to find the team you fit into best, and begin your Standard Chartered career.

Global Banking

Overview

Global Banking supports clients financial needs across more than 60 markets, providing solutions to over 5,3000 clients in some of the world’s fastest-growing economies and most active trade corridors. Our clients include large corporations, governments, banks and investors headquartered, operating or investing in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Our strong and deep local presence across these markets enables us to facilitate trade, capital and investment flows in and for our footprint, including across China’s Belt and Road initiative.

Our Global Banking team provides client coverage through global Industries group, financial & strategic investors group, banks and broker dealers, global subsidiaries, investors and insurance, commercial real estate focused Relationship Managers.

We collaborate increasingly with other segments: introducing Commercial Banking services to our clients’ ecosystems – their networks of buyers, suppliers, customers and service providers.

Your training

The programme provides a comprehensive grounding in corporate and commercial banking, and will see you working directly with a diverse range of business and corporate customers alongside our Corporate/Financial Institutions Bankers. You can explore how your skills can adapt to different areas of our business while developing new skills to help kick-start your career in the Global Banking. Here are some projects you could be involved in:

  • Generate creative ideas on customer acquisition and products/ services
  • Work directly with new clients to learn, analyse and identify opportunities to advance their business, developing a deep understanding of our customers’ needs, and expertise in the products we offer
  • Map, mine and implement cross sell opportunities to expand existing client relationships
  • Partner with Relationship Managers to structure client transactions, acquiring insight into product development, deal execution and digital banking
  • Prepare customer credit proposals

Your career progression

At the end of your 18-month programme, you’ll join a role within Global Banking. These could be in areas such as:

  • Credit Analysis

  • Relationship Management

Corporate Finance

Overview

Corporate Finance provides customized and innovative finance solutions to help our clients meet their strategic objectives. Products and services include mergers & acquisitions advisory, project & export finance, leverage & structured solutions and structured finance across various industries and sectors.

Our clients include large corporations, governments, banks and investors headquartered, operating or investing in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Our strong and deep local presence across these markets enables us to advise on innovative cross-border and regional transactions.

Your training

As a Corporate Finance International Graduate, you will participate in project teams with Corporate Finance Specialists who provide innovative, sound financial solutions to demanding clients in some of our dynamic markets. You will be provided with ongoing support and training that will help you to develop your analytical, problem solving and soft skills required to undertake your role. Here are some projects you could be involved in:

  • Business development activities including identification and targeting of potential opportunities

  • Financial modelling and quantitative analysis of a transaction

  • Preparation of client presentations, pitch documents and industry specific research

  • Work with teams across the bank to manage credit approval processes, onboard clients and take responsibility for account planning

Your career progression

At the end of your 18-month programme, you’ll join as an Analyst in Corporate Finance.

What you’ll do over 18 months

1 Month International induction

This comprises of classroom sessions, case studies, and tailored technical training split by business stream.

11 Months training rotations

You will spend three months in your focus area and go on to broaden your experience with further two months rotations in Financial Markets, Global Banking, Transaction Banking and Risk.

6 Months Business rotation

Your last rotation will be six months in your focus area in Corporate Finance.

Transaction Banking

Overview

We aim to be a one-stop gateway providing supply chain and liquidity management for corporates and financial institutions. We are uniquely positioned in these trade corridors, supporting commodity flows from Africa to Asia and manufacturing flows in the other direction.

Transaction banking is an integral part of Corporates & Institutional Banking. As a top three global trade finance bank – we are a key driver of Corporates & Institutional Banking aspirations.

Your training

Our programme gives you exposure to smaller businesses and multinationals alike, offering ideas for cash flow improvement and capital optimisation. We will build your skills and knowledge through rotations, to add value and contribute to meeting the needs of our clients. The projects you work on will require your analytical skills, an ability to work independently and an instinct for trends and innovations. You will learn from the best, evolve professionally as well as personally, and build a firm foundation upon which to specialise later. Here are some experiences you could look forward to:

  • Assist in developing sales strategy for clients and pitches for new products

  • Learn about segments, industries and how client working capital cycles impact business

  • Analyse research trends and current market conditions to contribute to launching new products to market

Commercial Banking

Your training

6 Months Business rotation

Your last rotation will be 6 months in your focus area in Commercial Banking. It’s your chance to find the team you fit into best, and begin your Standard Chartered career.

Wealth Management

Overview

We aspire to be the Private Bank of choice for generations of entrepreneurs in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, helping them to manage, protect and grow their wealth.

We’re investing $250 million in our Private Banking and Wealth Management business to improve the way we serve our clients, upgrading our core banking platform and adding senior Relationship Managers. Our goal is to double our assets under management in the next five years.

Your training

We help customers across our footprint with the management of their day-to-day finances and savings. What you’ll do over 18 months

1 Month International induction

This comprises of classroom sessions, case studies, and tailored technical training split by business stream.

11 Months training rotations

You will spend eight months in your core business area, where you’ll broaden your experience by rotating through Risk, Product, Distribution/Front Line and Digital.

6 Months Business rotation

Your last rotation will add to your knowledge of the product and client transaction lifecycle. It will also give you exposure to areas such as Funds, Wealth Propositions and Solutions, and Investment Strategy. It’s your chance to find the team you fit into best, and begin your Standard Chartered career.

Retail Banking

Overview

A suite of banking solutions that are simple, smart and secure. Retail Banking is what most people think of when they hear the word "banking". It essentially covers all the products and services that the Bank provides to make day to day lives easier for everyone, be it:

  • Payments - making it easier for online or direct purchases,

  • Accounts and Deposit Offering – providing you simple, smarter and secure options to save and/or grow your money

  • Mortgages and Investments – offering a range of simple solutions for your residential and financial needs.

At Standard Chartered, Retail Banking serves over 9 million affluent and emerging affluent clients and small businesses in many of the world’s fastest growing cities across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Our focus is on serving the banking needs of these Priority, Business and Personal Clients with market-leading digital capabilities and best-in class products and services as we make banking simple, smarter and secure.

Your training

Explore the different teams. Get to learn and build your knowledge of what really drives our Retail business.

As a Retail Banking International Graduate, you will enjoy the broadest possible exposure to our key businesses. This could mean working within our digital team to determine the future client experience or within our customer experience area looking at what drives client satisfaction. You could work within our product and services teams to understand and develop new client propositions or even within our risk and controls management areas.

You will be fully supported to fulfil your potential, follow your passions with our specialist teams where you can:

  • Manage and contribute to a revenue generating business

  • Lead client campaign and profitability analysis

  • Manage key strategic projects that impact different channels, segments and regions

  • Contribute to the design and development of global client acquisition programmes

  • Contribute to the development of Client Value Propositions

6 Months Business rotation

Your final rotation will last six months and help you understand our products in detail. It’s your chance to find the team you fit into best, and begin your Standard Chartered career.

Risk & Conduct, Financial Crime and Compliance (RCFCC)

Overview

All employees of Standard Chartered are risk managers and take responsibility for the risks in our area of work. This is the Bank’s first line of defence. The second is our Risk & Conduct, Financial Crime and Compliance function.

We believe that a healthy risk culture is one where we identify current and future risks effectively, discuss them openly and take prompt actions.

Working with teams across the Bank, Risk and Compliance colleagues take a constructive approach to providing oversight and challenge, and make clear decisions in a timely manner. Your training

RCFCC International Graduate programme aims to develop skilled Risk and/or Compliance Analysts. Risk and Compliance is an emerging and ever expanding area across Banking and the wider financial services industry. A role in RCFCC means that you will develop a unique skillset by working alongside subject matter business experts across multiple job rotations. This will allow you to develop highly sought after specialist business knowledge and technical skills in a best in class RCFCC function. The RCFCC graduate stream is directed towards a specialisation in Risk or Compliance business in the Bank. Here are some projects you may be involved in:

  • Risk & Controls identification and management

  • Improving efficiency, accuracy and maintainability of information (e.g. using Excel / advanced Excel)

  • Management of on-site regulatory engagements, guidelines and best practices

  • Preparation of high quality submissions/reports as requested by Regulators, Internal Audit and the Group Senior Management.

  • Regularly review our compliance policies and processes for anti-bribery and corruption, whistle blowing and more

  • Be a trusted advisor to our business units and act in the best interests of our clients and customers.

At the end of your 18-month programme, you’ll join a role in either Risk or Compliance. This could be in areas such as:

  • Risk governance

  • Cyber Risk

  • Retail Risk

  • Enterprise Risk Management

  • Country Risk Governance
