Khyati began her first and only job with Standard Chartered 16 years ago. Since then her loyalty, hard work and embodiment of the Bank’s values has propelled her into the industry spotlight through winning internal frontline campaigns, the Asia's Achievers Awards in 2021 and receiving notable recognition from the CEO.
How have you got to where you are now in your career?
My first professional role since leaving education was with Standard Chartered Bank in the management team. I joined the Bank in 2006 and I have spent the past 16 years developing my skills and progressing through the business. I take pride in my job and I am grateful for the support provided that has helped me to grow and explore new roles.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?
The first piece of advice I was given when I started my career was to always push myself to work out of my comfort zone. I attribute my success in the role to this, as it motivated me to learn new skills and take on projects I would have otherwise avoided. Pushing myself allowed me to discover new areas of interests such as training and client relationship building, which I wish to pursue.
What’s the best thing about working for Standard Chartered?
The Standard Chartered values of always doing the right thing, being better together and never settling create a culture that I take pride in contributing to. We are recognised for our achievements and encouraged to build on our skills by our dedicated mentors so we can reach our full potential. There are several contests that acknowledge employee accomplishments, aside from this there is also the Asia’s Achievers Council – a huge platform that catapults its winners into the industry limelight. Winning contests like these is so rewarding and they motivate me to always give 100% in my role. My role promotes a healthy work-life balance which provides me with the ability to spend quality time with my family and son, leaving me fulfilled in both of the most important aspects of my life.
What advice would you give to someone looking to work at Standard Chartered?
Standard Chartered is a great place to work and they are dedicated to investing in their employees. It is important that anybody joining the Bank is prepared to dedicate themselves to developing their skills and exploring all aspects of the business. Be positive, immerse yourself in the brand's culture, follow procedures and grow.
As a team we are here for good, we always follow the right practices, we work together and we are never satisfied or content. Do more, grow in life and never settle.
A week in the life of a Standard Chartered Relationship Manager varies depending on client and business needs, typically each week is planned to ensure that there is a healthy balance between work and personal life. At the start of the week I dedicate my day to structuring tasks and managing scheduled meetings for the coming week, organisation is critical to ensure my time is used effectively. I plan my day so that I can go home on time to spend time with my family and son.
Tuesdays tend to be dedicated to engaging with clients and assisting my team with any queries. I focus on relationship building and aiding clients with their requirements in planned meetings throughout the day.
Following meeting with clients, I execute the tasks required and process the meeting notes in line with the Bank’s procedure. I ensure the tasks are finalised in a timely manner to keep the clients satisfied and so I can focus on future scheduled meetings.
During busy times I assist clients with their needs but when it is quieter I focus on building our customer base through calling potential clients and scheduling new business meetings.
At the end of the week I finalise outstanding tasks and requests. I then take a look into what is upcoming on the schedule to prepare myself for what to expect for the coming week. It is really important to me that I use my weekends effectively so I’ll make sure I have planned outings with my family, friends or colleagues.
