What drew you to join Standard Chartered’s technology team?
Standard Chartered is one of the world’s largest financial institutions with substantial influence in the Asia-Pacific region. With a commitment to utilising the latest technology far beyond other financial institutions, I wanted to be a part of an organisation that would allow me to work with cutting-edge technology while shaping the future of cyber security in banking.
Tell us about an exciting project that you are currently working on.
Over the past few years, my team and I have been working towards establishing a stronger security posture for the Bank. To achieve this, we have focused on harnessing the latest breakthroughs in technology, such as advanced analytics powered by machine learning, automated intelligence (AI) and the Cloud. We have even had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the top global organisations, which was a fantastic learning experience. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this project and I take great pride in how my team and I have elevated the Bank’s security.
How would you describe the culture of the technology team?
The talented and diverse members of Standard Chartered’s technology team create a unique environment to innovate and drive positive change. We are a dynamic team that is willing to incorporate the ideas of each member into our initiatives and projects. My team leverages Standard Chartered’s values of being better together and never settle by capitalising on one another's strengths and striving to produce the best outcomes for our clients and colleagues. I have truly benefited from being a part of such a gifted international team.
What is your proudest achievement in your career with Standard Chartered so far?
Since joining Standard Chartered in 2020, I have accumulated a rich list of achievements that I am exceptionally proud of. Despite this, my proudest achievement is definitely building my successful team. We are a group of exceptional leaders, talented and driven engineers, and most importantly, wonderful, friendly and supportive individuals.
What’s the biggest challenge you have faced in your role?
Adopting innovative technologies in a large organisation poses a complex challenge that requires a well-thought-out strategy, effective planning and a willingness to continuously refine the implementation to achieve optimal results. The world of technology is ever-changing and as a leading bank, it is imperative that we stay up to date with the latest advancements. Although it can be challenging, it is incredibly fulfilling to be a part of an organisation that understands the importance of integrating the newest cutting-edge technologies into the banking process.
How do you like to spend your free time?
Outside of work, I like to take advantage of the beautiful landscape and fantastic opportunities to socialise offered in Singapore. As I spend most of my time working with technology, I like to keep things low-tech during my free time by spending time with loved ones and exploring the city by bike.
