Giving back comes full circle
Inspired by the Global Give Back Circle, a network of successful women working to transition disadvantaged girls out of poverty – we sponsored 10 girls to attend the Starehe Girls’ Centre. As the Nairobi high school only accepts 80 students each year, the girls had to promise academically and lack financial support.
Internships with us
Excelling in all their subjects and proving to be natural leaders within their school, we offered five of the graduates internships with the Bank. Irene Odiero and Jackie Selim were two of the girls selected. As part of their internship, they receive mentoring from senior executive women within the Bank. They say their mentors have helped them integrate into the working environment and consider their future career path.
Irene said, “The staff members I get to work with are very friendly and supportive. I now have a wide knowledge of finance and banking. I’ve developed a greater sense of responsibility and feel empowered. I feel blessed and happy to be part of this programme."
Empowerment through sport
In many of our markets, it's difficult for young women to participate in economic development.
