Our International Graduate (IG) Programme

The Standard Chartered International Graduate Programme is our way to attract the the most sought after graduates in the world and cultivate their talents through a year-long, immersive, collaborative, global experience. In other words, we want to show you the world, so that you can make your mark on it.

What is Transaction Banking?

Transaction Banking impacts the real economy. The business facilitates the flow of trade and investment. We help our clients manage their working capital and obtain financing to keep the flow of goods and services moving, helping investors to access markets in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Projects and experiences

Our Transaction Banking business is comprised of Cash Management, Securities Services, Trade Finance, Mobile Money and new digital channels. As the world’s leading Trade Bank, we help our clients navigate international trade by offering import, export, inventory, receivables and supply chain financing. In your first year as a Transaction Banking IG, we will provide you with the broadest possible exposure and experience.

Below are some of the projects and experiences you can expect as part of our Transaction Banking stream:

  • Assist in developing sales strategy for clients and pitches for new products
  • Learn about segments, industries and how client working capital cycles impact business
  • Analyse research trends and current market conditions to contribute to launching new products to market

You’ll make connections from around the world and learn everything you need to be successful in your rotations > 1 month Business Infrastructure Rotations - Cash Operations or Trade Operations: Discover the role of operations within the greater strategy of the business. > 9 months Business Rotations - 3 months Sales - 3 months Product management - 3 months Digital: Understand the business through measuring and optimising our knowledge of product cycles in relation to clients’ business cycles.

What is Retail Banking?

Retail Banking is at the forefront of the change in the financial services. As the world gets more connected, the banking industry is transforming and our Retail Banking teams are working to re-imagine banking; making it faster, easier and more personalised.

Projects and experiences

As a Retail Banking International Graduate, you will be based in a head office location at the core of the Retail Banking business. You will work in a central team, supporting the franchise, not in front line Sales or Branch based roles. You will enjoy the broadest possible exposure to the Retail Bank. Below are some of the projects and experiences you can expect as part of our Retail Banking stream:

  • Contribute to the design and development of global customer acquisition programmes
  • Project manage strategy standardisation across channels, segments and regions
  • Run revenue forecasting and campaign analysis
  • Contribute to the development of Customer Value Propositions
  • Initiate, coordinate, monitor and deliver digital projects

1 week Country Induction > 4 weeks International Induction - Get ready for an incredible experience. This is your ultimate induction to the Bank. You’ll make connections from around the world and learn everything you need to be successful in your rotations > 4 months Business Infrastructure Rotations - 2 months Retail Risk - 2 months Frontline Experience: Gather a thorough understanding of how to engage with clients in ways that are beneficial to the business. > 6 months Business Rotation - Spend 2 months in 3 of the following: Segments, Alliances/Corporate partnerships, Brand & marketing; Products; Analytics; Digital - Understand our products in detail including data measurement and how it can be used to manage and optimise our client relationships and services.

Wealth Management

Your clients trust you to understand pretty much everything.

What is Wealth Management?

Wealth Management provides a range of products and solutions to help our clients grow and protect their wealth, working as partners with asset management firms and insurance companies. Our clients span the full spectrum of individuals to small business and corporate clients. We have teams of Investments Advisors, Insurance Specialists and Treasury Specialists, who interact with clients and Relationship Managers who provide expert insights on global markets and specialist advice.

In your first year we will provide you with the broadest possible exposure and experience. Below are some of the projects and opportunities you can expect as part of our Wealth Management stream:

  • Monitor the global markets for patterns and insights to produce market reports for clients
  • Shape the development and the way we present our wealth management products and services to clients
  • Develop client behavior analytics and formulate plans for new ways of engaging clients

What can I expect during my year as an IG in Wealth Management?
1 week Country Induction > 4 weeks International Induction - Get ready for an incredible experience. This is your ultimate induction to the Bank. You’ll make connections from around the world and learn everything you need to be successful in your rotations > 4 months Business Infrastructure Rotation - Timeline:	2 months Policies & Processes: Learn to introduce products to clients. Complete and apply policy related reports for clients and products; 2 months Risk: Build client solutions with a keen understanding of the key regulations that affect SPC – both specifically to Wealth Management and to SCB. > 6 months Business Rotations - Timeline: Spend 3 months in 2 of the following: WMPS; Funds; Wealth Propositions and Solutions; Investment Strategy & Advisory; Client Segments;	Bancassurance;Spend 3 months in both areas. - Learn the entire product and client transaction lifecycle, including development, sales, delivery, risk and measurement.

Commercial Banking

You have an entrepreneur's soul, and you understand what businesses need to succeed.

What is Commercial Banking?

Commercial Banking provides solutions to small businesses, entry level corporates, entrepreneurs and local businesses as well as mature and fast growing middle market companies. We help our clients grow and expand internationally, facilitating trade with their buyers and suppliers, managing their working capital and transactional needs, assisting them managing volatility (currency, commodity prices, interest rates), as well as providing markets and corporate finance solutions when their needs become bigger and more complex.

Projects and experiences

In your first year we will provide you with the broadest possible exposure to the Bank, below are some of the projects and experiences you can expect as part of our Commercial Banking stream:

  • Work directly with new clients to learn, analyse and identify opportunities to advance their business
  • Map, mine and implement cross sell opportunities to expand existing client relationships
  • Partner with Relationship Managers to structure and diversify client transactions

What can I expect during my year as an IG in Commercial Banking?
1 week Country Induction > 4 weeks International Induction - Get ready for an incredible experience. This is your ultimate induction to the Bank. You’ll make connections from around the world and learn everything you need to be successful in your rotations > 4 months Business Infrastructure Rotation - 2 months Cash operations - 2 months Trade operations:	Understand operations, transactions, maintenance of Client Accounts, clearing and settlement and how it relates to other parts of the business. > 6 months Business Rotation - 3 months Assistant Relationship Manager OR Credit Analysis + 3 months Segmentation & Proposition OR Process & Governance: Learn Planning, managing client service requests and addressing complaint while understanding Credit processes and how the programme relates to other parts of the business and functionalities; Work together to understand Group Policy compliance and client relationships. Closely work with the Head of Segment and Propositions on all aspects of the business.

What is Corporate & Institutional Banking Clients and Corporate Finance?

Our Corporate & Institutional Banking Clients business serves the banking needs of our global and large scale enterprise, financial institutions and government clients. Getting to know our biggest clients, their businesses and challenges is core to the work of these teams. These teams are responsible for providing global expertise and local support, and bring together the right people from across the Bank to craft the right solutions for our clients.

Projects and experiences

Corporate Finance helps clients build their businesses through financial and strategic advice. The teams offer a range of products including Mergers and Acquisitions, Leveraged Finance, Project and Export Finance, Structured Trade Finance, Principal Finance and Structured Finance.

This stream offers the opportunity to experience both our Corporate & Institutional Banking Clients and Corporate Finance businesses. In your first year we will provide you with the broadest possible exposure and experience. Below are some of the projects and opportunities you can expect as part of our Corporate & Institutional Banking Clients and Corporate Finance stream:

  • Build financial models and provide the analysis and insight on the impacts of different capital structures
  • Originate deals, prepare and pitch to clients
  • Work on critical research and provide insights to deal teams on key markets, industries and clients
  • Work with teams across the bank to manage credit approval processes, onboard clients and take responsibility for account planning

What can I expect during my year as an IG in Corporate & Institutional Banking Clients and Corporate Finance?
1 week Country Induction > 4 weeks International Induction - Get ready for an incredible experience. This is your ultimate induction to the Bank. You’ll make connections from around the world and learn everything you need to be successful in your rotations > 4 months Business Infrastructure Rotation: Credit Analysis - Understand how Credit relates to other parts of the business, functionalities, the process and execution of certain documentation. > 6 months Business Rotation - 3 months rotations Corporate Finance + Global Banking: Research and execute deals, as you identify competitors and opportunities as a part of a team; Extract and analyse data and sector knowledge in preparation of pitch books.

What is Financial Markets?

Our Financial Markets teams expertly deliver a variety of risk management, financing and investment solutions to our clients. Offering a full suite of fixed income, currencies, commodities and capital markets solutions, the Financial Markets business comprises Sales, Trading, Capital Markets, Asset and Liability Management, Structuring and Research.

Projects and experiences

In your first year we will provide the broadest possible exposure to the Bank, below are some of the projects and experiences you can expect as part of our Financial Markets stream:

  • Analyse and create pitchbooks, confirming client deals and coordinating client events as part of our Sales teams
  • Price, test, develop and roll-out new products as part of our Structuring teams
  • Provide insights on balance sheet movements, report changes in liquidity profiles and track Trading desk funding profiles as part of our ALM teams
  • Support senior desk members executing and inputting hedging trades and provide pricing to sales desks as part of our Trading Teams

What can I expect during my year as an IG in Financial Markets?
1 week Country Induction > 4 weeks International Induction - Get ready for an incredible experience. This is your ultimate induction to the Bank. You'll make connections from around the world and learn everything you need to be successful in your rotations > 2 months Business Infrastructure Rotation - 1 month Operational risk + 1 month Market Traded Credit Risk: Master the different types of risks and our approach to managing it, particularly global market risks. > 8 months Business Rotation - Spend 4 months in 2 of the following: Trading – 2 months; Structuring – 2 months; Sales – 2 months; Asset & Liability Management (ALM) – 2 months; Capital Markets – 2 months - Learn how we build our business as you work across several teams to sell solutions to clients based on their needs while cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with clientele.

Our Internships

As an intern, in the summer before your final year as a student, you'll work directly on real world problems to hone your skills, create lasting relationships and learn about your strengths.
