Standard Chartered Bank Indonesia is one of Standard Chartered Bank’s branch offices in the Asian region. The Bank is owned entirely (100%) by Standard Chartered Holdings Limited, United Kingdom. As a branch office of a foreign bank in Indonesia, the Bank’s business journey and management is controlled and conducted in an integrated manner with the Board of Standard Chartered Bank that is headquartered in London.

The Bank’s business journey in Indonesia has a long history. It started when The Chartered Bank (currently referred to as Standard Chartered Bank) entered commercial banking business through Borneo Company in Batavia (now referred to as Jakarta) in 1859. In May 1863, The Chartered Bank then ran the business independently. With this, the Chartered Bank became the the first British foreign exchange bank that set up business in the West Indies (currently referred to as Indonesia).

In 1965, the branch office in Jakarta was shut down due to a coup attempt. Nevertheless, the business started again in 1968 after Standard Chartered Bank Indonesia obtained business license as specified in the Letter of the Minister of Finance No. D. dated 1 October 1968 and the Decision Letter of the Board of Directors of Bank Negara Indonesia (the previous Indonesia’s central bank) No. 4/22/KEP.DIR dated 2 October 1968 to perform foreign exchange activities and banking services.

Currently, the Bank's main office is located at Menara Standard Chartered Jl. Prof. Dr. Satrio No. 164, Jakarta, 12930. The Bank is supported by 1,867 employees to run the business across the country, covering 6 cities: Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Medan, Semarang, Denpasar, and Makassar areas.

In accordance with the Decision Letter of the Minister of Finance No. D., the Bank holds a license to conduct activities of a commercial bank. The business activities are carried out in the following 3 (three) segments:

  • Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB)
    This segment provides Transaction Banking, Financial Markets, Capital Markets, Lending and Corporate Finance services for Corporate and Institutional clients. The service is globally operated with the support of local product team that focuses on developing local content so that it will be in line with clients’ needs and existing regulations.
  • Commercial Banking (CB)
    This segment serves middle scale companies and local corporations. With a minimum sales of USD 10 million, the Bank provides Transaction Banking, Financial Markets, Capital Markets, Lending and Corporate Finance services for this segment as well.
  • Retail Banking (RB)
    This segment serves individual and priority clients as well as business actors using life cycle approach. Services provided include cash and deposit accounts, personal loans, a wide choice of credit card products to suit clients needs and lifestyle, as well as a series of world class Wealth Management products
