1. What is One-Time PIN (OTP)?

The One-Time PIN (OTP) is an added online authentication service provided by Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad to give you added security feature and peace of mind when conducting online transaction at the 3D secured participating merchant’s website using your Standard Chartered Bank credit card.

One-Time PIN (OTP) is a numeric code that is only valid for a one time transaction when you purchase online. The OTP will be sent via SMS to your mobile phone number as registered with Standard Chartered Bank. It will expire in 4 minutes.

2. What is 3D secured?

3D Secured is a service facilitated by VISA and MasterCard that lets you transact online securely using your Card. This service is available only on 3D secured merchant sites.

Verified by Visa (VBV) /MasterCard SecureCode (MSC), introduces a One Time PIN (OTP) protection during an Internet purchase to authenticate the customer.
The goal of VBV/MSC is to create the same trust and confidence amongst merchants and customers that exist in a face to face shopping environment.

3. How does online transaction with One-Time PIN (OTP) security feature works?

It simplifies online shopping because you no longer have to memorise an online PIN. Instead, the OTP will be sent to your registered mobile phone.

Step 1:
Please ensure that your latest mobile phone number is registered with the Bank. Otherwise, kindly call our contact centre at 03- 77118888 or visit our nearest branch to update your mobile number.
Step 2:
When shopping online, enter your card’s particulars at the merchant’s website.
Step 3:
You will be automatically redirected to Standard Chartered Bank’s authentication page. An OTP will be sent to the Principal Cardholder's mobile number.
Step 4:
Enter the OTP at Standard Chartered Bank’s authentication page. Click “Submit” to complete the authentication process.

4. Do I need to pay for the OTP I received?

No charge for each SMS on OTP received from Standard Chartered Bank.

5. How do I register my mobile phone number to receive OTP?

Only Principal cardholders have to register their mobile phone number by calling our contact center at 603-7711 8888 or visit any Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad branch nationwide

6. If I want to change my mobile phone number for OTP, can I login to my internet banking?

No, you cannot change the mobile phone number using internet banking. You will need to call our contact center at 603-7711 8888 or visit any Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad branch nationwide to update your mobile number.

7. Do I need to register or request for OTP?

You do not need to register or request for OTP. OTP will be sent automatically to your mobile phone after you have filled in all your credit card details and click purchase. You will be asked to enter the OTP at Standard Chartered Bank’s authentication page where you will need to obtain your OTP via SMS sent to the Principal cardholder’s mobile number. Then, click “Submit” to complete the authentication process.

8. How about the PIN I created (static PIN) for 3D secured online transaction prior to this? Is it still applicable?

OTP will replace the PIN which you created for 3D secured online transaction effective from 30 March 2012. An OTP will be sent instead to the Principal cardholder’s mobile number via SMS effective 30 March 2012 to complete the online transaction. 

However, prior to 30 March 2012, the PIN created by you is still applicable for 3D secured online transaction.

9. Is Debit card on OTP as well?

No. Debit card is still using the static PIN. The PIN can be created online via our website. Only Credit card is on OTP.

10. What happens to the transaction if the merchant is not certified 3D secured?

If the merchant is not a certified 3D secured, then OTP will not be required to complete the purchase.

11. If I do not receive a OTP within 1 minute, what should I do

If you do not receive your OTP within 1 minute, you can request for another OTP by clicking the “Resend OTP” button.

12. What happen if I have entered invalid OTP up to 3 times?

A web message will pop up to inform that your card is blocked due to maximum of attempts for invalid one-time-PIN entered.

The message will direct the customer to contact Standard Chartered Bank at 603-7711 8888 for assistance if they would like to continue their online transaction.

13. Would I be able to shop online immediately after I have updated my mobile phone number?

Mobile number update at contact centre will require 3 working days to update in the system, after successful call back to the customer to verify genuine change. 

Mobile number update at branches will require 2 working days to update in the system as verification is done in person.
