Reap the benefits of gold or USD.

With Commodity-Linked Structured Investment, you can enjoy some of the potential benefits associated with investments in gold, namely:
  • Gold typically maintains its value during times of economic and market uncertainty
  • Gold can be used as a hedging tool against USD movement and inflationary pressures
  • Gold helps diversify your investment portfolio
All you have to do:
  • Choose a base currency / commodity1 (USD or Gold [XAU])
  • Choose your base currency / commodity (USD or Gold [XAU])
  • Agree on a Target Conversion Rate (TCR) to be applied between the commodity and currency
  • Decide on your placement tenure

On maturity, you will get both principal and coupon in either the base currency / commodity, depending on the USD/Gold rate as compared to your chosen TCR.

1 The base currency for the 1st investment of Commodity-Linked Structured Investment must always be USD. For subsequent investments, the base currency / commodity can be either USD or gold (only if you are holding gold after a Commodity-Linked Structured Investment)

This investment may be suitable for you if:
  • You wish to enjoy higher earnings in either USD or gold
You stand to gain considerably more than with a conventional fixed deposit
  • You seek superior pricing and service
Enjoy real-time pricing for better informed investment decision-making
  • You want control over your investments
Take advantage of tenures from as short as 1 week to 1 month
Your investment amount can be as small as RM50,000* (or equivalent)

This product is made available only to individuals with (1) net personal assets exceeding RM3million or its equivalent in foreign currencies, (2) gross annual income exceeding RM300,000 p.a. or its equivalent in foreign currencies (3) total net joint assets with spouse exceeding RM3million or its equivalent in foreign currency excluding the value of their primary residence, (4) total joint gross annual income with spouse exceeding RM400,000 p.a. or its equivalent in foreign currencies; OR corporate/partnership that has total net assets exceeding RM10million or its equivalent in foreign currency as at the last day of that financial year.

*The minimum investment amount is RM50,000 (SCB's requirement).

Four simple steps to rewarding gains

Step 1:

Let's assume you have funds of USD100,000 and you do not mind holding gold (XAU).

Step 2:

Let's say the exchange rate for gold is set in terms of USD at 813.75. However, preferring to be more conservative, you set a Target Conversion Rate (TCR) of 793.32.

Step 3:

You do not need the funds in the next two weeks, so you choose a 14-day tenure. At this stage, we will inform you of the confirmed coupon you will enjoy. In this case, let's assume it is 25% p.a.

Step 4:

On valuation date (two business days before maturity), it will be determined whether your funds plus the confirmed coupon will be repaid in USD or in XAU.

Scenario 1 Scenario 2
USD weakens against gold compared to the TCR you have set. Gold now trades at USD910 per troy ounce USD strengthens against gold beyond the TCR you have set. Gold now trades at USD700 per troy ounce

You will receive your funds + coupon in USD

USD100,000 + (USD100,000 x 25% x 14/360) = USD100,972**

**Figure has been rounded to the nearest USD

You will receive your funds + coupon in XAU converted at TCR of USD793.32 per troy ounce

[ USD100,000 + (USD100,000 x 25% x 14/360) ] / 793.32 = XAU127.28***

***XAU denotes per troy ounce of gold and XAU figure has been rounded off to the nearest two decimal troy ounces of gold

Please note that for Commodity-Linked Structured Investment, you may choose to receive your investment returns in either USD or XAU.

The transaction details above are only indicative of an investment made in USD referencing to Gold and is purely for illustration purpose only. The correlation between the exchange rate (USD/XAU) and the Target Conversion Rate (TCR), which determines the redemption amount and currency of the payout at maturity, may differ from the indicative transaction details above depending on the investment amount, tenure and TCR.
