Increase your potential for higher returns with the Standard Chartered Commodity-Linked Structured Investment

Greater potential for higher returns

Discover the opportunities in dual-investment, involving both gold and a currency of your choice with Standard Chartered – the first bank in Malaysia to offer such investment.

Features

Earn potentially higher returns

How it works

Step 1
Choose your base currency / commodity (United States Dollar or gold [XAU])

Let’s assume you have funds of USD100,000 and you do not mind holding XAU

Step 2
Agree on a Target Conversion Rate (TCR) to be applied between the commodity and currency

Let’s say the exchange rate for gold is set in terms of USD at 1,340.50. However, preferring to be more conservative, you set a TCR of 1,321.47

Step 3
Decide on your placement tenure

You do not need the funds in the next two weeks, so you choose a 14-day tenure. At this stage, we will inform you of the confirmed coupon you will enjoy. In this case, let’s assume it is 25% p.a.

Step 4
On maturity, you will get both principal and coupon in either the base currency or commodity, depending on the United States Dollar or XAU rate as compared to your chosen TCR on valuation date (two business days before maturity)

Scenario 1
Scenario 2
United States Dollar weakens against gold compared to the TCR you have set. Gold now trades at USD1,340 per troy ounce United States Dollar strengthens against gold beyond the TCR you have set. Gold now trades at USD1,300 per troy ounce
You will receive your funds + coupon in United States Dollar

USD100,000 + (USD100,000 x 25% x 14/360) = USD100,972.22

You will receive your funds + coupon in XAU converted at TCR of USD793.32 per troy ounce

[ USD100,000 + (USD100,000 x 25% x 14/360) ] / 1,321.47 = XAU76.41

You can hold on to gold and wait for it to appreciate in value before selling it off to enjoy greater returns.

Alternatively, you can choose to enter into another Commodity-Linked structured investment, with gold as your base currency or commodity to potentially earn another round of higher coupon.
