5 June 2015, Singapore – Almost 600 kids and their parents bonded over sports activities at Standard Chartered Bank’s 10th annual Kids@Work today. Held at both the Bank’s offices at Marina Bay Financial Centre and Changi Business Park, all employees were encouraged to bring their children to the office to get a firsthand experience of their parents’ daily life at work.

In line with the official opening of the 28th SEA Games today, this year’s Kids@Work was intentionally themed around sports, with activities focusing on sports, competition and team play.

The first activity, “Be a Sport”, has been designed for kids aged from two to seven years old. The kids had to design and wear their own cardboard horses, and participate in a mini horse racing competition. This activity was chosen to mirror the equestrian segment at the SEA Games.

For the older kids aged between eight and twelve, the activity “Race of the Dragons” was chosen to represent the Dragon Boat segment at the SEA Games. In groups of ten, the kids had to build a life-sized dragon boat with a set of materials provided, and some of which had to be obtained by winning challenges

Mr Lim Cheng Teck, Chief Executive Officer, ASEAN said,
“At Standard Chartered, we believe in a balanced and people-focused culture, where we prioritise not only our employees’ professional development, but also their personal well-being. Kids@Work is one such example; it was conceptualised on the back of feedback that every child enjoys going to work with his or her parent for the day. Kids@Work presents a fantastic engagement activity for our employees and I am glad to share that attendance has grown more than threefold since we launched it 10 years ago. Our employees have shared that they are appreciative of the opportunity to spend time with their managers and kids in a less formal environment.

With this year’s Kids@Work falling on the same day as the official opening of the 28th SEA Games, we have the opportunity to make this year’s event even more meaningful as employees and their children bond over sports-related activities to celebrate the spirit of the SEA Games and sportsmanship.”

      Kids@Work 2015 Factsheet

      Background

Kids@Work, launched in 2006, is an annual employee engagement event where all Bank employees are encouraged to bring their children to work to understand what their parents do at work. It was conceptualised based on feedback that every child enjoys going to work with his or her parent for a day

On top of learning more about their parents’ jobs, the children also participated in a range of games and workshops customised for different age groups. This year’s theme is sports, in line with the 28th SEA Games, and the kids’ activities revolved around sports, competition and team play. The same sets of activities are available at the Bank’s offices in Marina Bay Financial Centre and Changi Business Park.

Kids@Work is a fantastic employee engagement platform

Feedback from employees indicates that they feel more engaged at work when the Bank and their managers take interest in their personal lives.
