Standard Chartered announces new Regional CEO and Vice-Chairman for Africa

Standard Chartered has appointed Diana Layfield as Regional Chief Executive Officer, Africa, with effect from 22 June 2011. Diana succeeds Mike Hart, who becomes Vice Chairman for the Bank's operations in Africa.
Diana will be responsible for driving the Bank's business and brand across Africa. Currently Group Head of Strategy and Corporate Development, Diana has previously held senior management roles in the Bank as Chief Operating Officer for Wholesale Banking and as Group Head, Global Corporates.
Mike has led Standard Chartered's franchise in Africa since 2006, delivering record results while growing our business, and has also been an active proponent of the Bank's community programmes across Africa. Mike has held numerous senior positions in the Bank, including Group Head of Audit and Group Head of Operations. He will continue to work very closely with the Bank's franchise in Africa in his new non-executive role.

Diana Layfield has been Group Head of Strategy and Corporate Development - acquisitions, alliances, mergers and disposals - since 2009, with global responsibility across Standard Chartered's businesses, products and geographies for Group Strategy, working closely with the Group CEO, CFO and Board. Diana has held a number of senior management roles since joining the Bank in 2004, including Chief Operating Officer for Wholesale Banking and as Group Head, Global Corporates.
Prior to joining Standard Chartered, Diana was CEO of Finexia Ltd, a technology company providing outsourced services and software for the commercial finance industry, between 2000 and 2004. Diana also worked for McKinsey & Co (1995-2000), as well as piloting relief planes for the International Committee of the Red Cross / UN in Africa (1998-99). She was educated at the University of Oxford and Harvard University.
Mike Hart has been Regional Chief Executive Officer, Africa, since 2006. His previous role was General Manager, East Africa and Chief Executive Officer, Kenya. Mike joined Standard Chartered in 1988 and has held numerous senior positions in Singapore, the UK, Hong Kong, East Africa and Dubai. His recent senior posts include Group Head of Audit and Group Head of Operations, leading the transformation of operational risk processes and other strategic programmes and business re-engineering.
After 23 years of dedicated service at Standard Chartered, Mike has taken the decision to step down from his executive responsibilities, but will continue to work very closely with the Bank's franchise in Africa in his new non-executive role.
