Standard Chartered supports EUR2.1 billion financing for landmark Gennaker offshore wind project in Germany

Frankfurt, Germany & London, UK – 14/09/2026. Standard Chartered announced its role as Arranger, Lender and Hedging Bank on the approximately EUR2.1 billion financing of the Gennaker offshore wind project, supporting the development of one of Germany’s largest offshore wind projects. The 976.5 MW project is being developed by Skyborn Renewables and is expected to commence commercial operations in 2028.

The financing further expands Standard Chartered’s support for Skyborn Renewables following its previously announced financial advisory role on the project earlier this year. Together, these mandates demonstrate the Bank’s ability to support clients across the infrastructure lifecycle, combining financial advisory, financing and risk management capabilities to help deliver large-scale energy transition projects.

Located in the Baltic Sea, approximately 15 kilometres off Germany’s northern coast, Gennaker is a strategically important renewable energy project that will contribute to Germany’s renewable energy capacity and long-term energy security ambitions. Once operational, it is expected to be among the country’s largest offshore wind farms with 63 offshore wind turbines.

Skyborn Renewables, backed by Global Infrastructure Partners, a part of BlackRock, is developing the project in partnership with Stadtwerke München. Amazon and Uniper have signed respectively long-term corporate power purchase agreements with the project, supporting their commitments to carbon-free energy.

Sergio Song, Head of Investments, Skyborn Renewables, said: “Gennaker is a landmark transaction for Skyborn, and its successful financing reflects the strength and commitment of our financing partners. Standard Chartered has been a key partner throughout the process, bringing strong expertise and a pragmatic approach that helped us deliver this complex financing.”

Philippe Tabouis, Head, Infrastructure and Development Finance Group, Europe, Standard Chartered, said: “The Gennaker project is one of the most significant renewable energy infrastructure developments currently underway in Germany and highlights the scale of investment required to support the energy transition, strengthen energy security and drive sustainable growth. We are proud to support Skyborn Renewables as adviser, arranger, lender and hedging bank, bringing together the full breadth of Standard Chartered’s capabilities.”

The financing was provided by a group of international lenders, including the European Investment Bank (EIB), reflecting the strategic importance of the project and the continued investment required to advance Germany’s renewable energy ambitions.

Standard Chartered continues to support clients globally in developing, financing and managing complex infrastructure projects. By combining sector expertise, global connectivity and integrated advisory, financing and risk management capabilities, the Bank helps mobilise capital for projects that drive economic development and support the transition to a lower-carbon economy.
