Sunil Daswani and Carmen Müller recognised as champions of inclusive workplaces

10 November 2021, London, United Kingdom / Frankfurt, Germany – Standard Chartered Bank is proud to announce that Sunil Daswani, Global Head of Agency Securities Lending, and Carmen Müller, Managing Director, International Corporates, have featured in this year’s OUTstanding LGBT+ Executive List[1], supported by Yahoo Finance.

Sunil Daswani at Standard Chartered, said “I am honoured to accept this recognition in the OUTstanding list alongside so many great advocates. It has always been important to me to support people in being their authentic selves without fear, in every part of their lives. I hope by promoting what I do that it will give others the courage to be themselves. I personally know how hard this can be, and the support of those who become allies for a truly inclusive workplace also makes a huge difference to people’s daily experiences.”

Sunil is a champion of inclusion and leverages his influence as a Global Head at Standard Chartered to drive change. He writes thoughtful articles surrounding LGBT+ inclusion, which are available to all employees, and is a member of the Bank’s LGBT+ Network. Externally, Sunil is setting up a foundation called Proud to Be Proud, supporting people to embrace their authentic selves and helping them overcome barriers to progression.

Carmen Müller at Standard Chartered, said “It is an incredible honour to be included on the OUTstanding LGBT+ Executive list. Recognising and realising the value that lies in openness and inclusivity in the work environment is close to my heart. As a mentor of young talent, I have had the pleasure to experience many times what happens if we support people to bring their true selves to work and how this can set free so much potential that otherwise might have been hidden. The diverse stories and experiences e.g. from non-binary or trans people are truly inspiring to me and are more often than not a testament to their “growth mindset”, which enriches organisations”.

Carmen is the Co-Founder of Standard Chartered Bank’s AG diversity and inclusion Council and co-chair of the local SC Pride chapter (the Bank’s LGBT+ Employee Resource Group) where she has led the organisation of events amongst Standard Chartered’s continental Europe teams for LGBT+ topics. She is leading the way with a focus on openness and inclusivity in the business context. Carmen is also a member of Standard Chartered’s Global SC Pride Steering Committee, where she has helped drive the global adoption of pronouns to drive greater inclusion.

Externally, Carmen uses her social media platforms and influence as a role model in business to promote LGBT+ businesses in Frankfurt and mentors LGBT+ talent. She also hosts community events e.g. working together with a local business school for the LGBT+ and Allies community to network.

Suki Sandhu OBE, Founder & CEO of INvolve, said “I’m thrilled to be celebrating this trailblazing group of global LGBT+ and Ally Role Models who are championing inclusion and inspiring the next generation of talent. It’s vital that the LGBT+ community can succeed and be authentic in business and beyond, and these Role Models are essential in dismantling barriers to progression and creating opportunities for LGBT+ employees to thrive.”

This is the ninth consecutive year Standard Chartered has ranked in the global OUTstanding LGBT+ Role Model Lists[2], demonstrating the commitment of the Bank’s business leaders and LGBT+ allies to break down barriers. The Bank is a founding member (2015) of Open for Business[3], and also signed the UN Standards of Conduct for Business Tackling Discrimination against LGBTI People[4] in 2019, which reinforces our commitment to LGBT+ inclusion globally.
