The Europe and the Americas business is a centre of expertise for the Bank’s major product offerings, allowing us to provide a wide range of services, platforms and capabilities to meet the growing needs of our clients. As one of the Bank’s fastest-growing client regional franchises, our business in Europe and the Americas is pivotal to delivering the strategic aspirations of the Bank.

Standard Chartered has a history of over 170 years in the UK, having opened our UK office in 1853. Our headquarters are at 1 Basinghall Avenue, in the heart of the City of London, and both the Group CEO and Chair are based here.
Standard Chartered is regulated by the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority and is one of the UK’s largest banks. We are a FTSE100 company listed on the London Stock Exchange since 1969.
In addition to the many Group functions based in the UK, London serves as the headquarters for the Europe and the Americas business, focused on facilitating business for our clients across Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
It is a hub for our Corporate, Commerical and Institutional Banking business, and hosts a significant Private Banking business for the region.

Margaret Harwood-Jones
Chief Executive Officer, Europe and UK
Margaret was appointed CEO, Europe and UK, for Standard Chartered on 1 September 2026. Based in London, Margaret leads the Europe Management Team and is responsible for driving growth and the Bank’s strategy across the region. Prior to this, she was Global Head, Financing and Securities Services (FSS) at the bank. Margaret is Chair and Board Member of Standard Chartered Bank Luxembourg, and a member of Standard Chartered Bank AG’s Supervisory Board.
Alison Higgins
Head of Prime Services
Alison Higgins is Head of Prime Services at Standard Chartered. Based in London, Alison leads our brokerage and clearing suite of solutions, globally.
