Standard Chartered finances new large‑scale UK solar and battery portfolio
2 days ago24 April 2026 – London, UK. Standard Chartered today announced that it has supported an up to GBP 500 million senior secured platform financing for the development, construction and operation of a portfolio of solar photovoltaic generation facilities and co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the United Kingdom. The Bank is acting as Mandated Lead Arranger, Bookrunner, Lender and Hedging Counterparty.
The financing was raised by Amalfi Finance Company, a wholly owned entity of Elgin, to fund a portfolio of up to 1GW of solar photovoltaic assets across the UK. Elgin is backed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), through its Flagship fund V (CI V).
The transaction supports the expansion of utility‑scale renewable energy capacity in the UK, contributing to domestic power generation and supporting the government’s longer‑term ambition to deliver a largely decarbonised power system by 2030.
The financing is structured as a portfolio facility, allowing additional projects to be added over time, subject to predefined eligibility criteria. This structure provides a scalable framework to support the progressive development of renewable energy assets while maintaining a disciplined and consistent financing approach.
Philippe Tabouis, Head of Infrastructure and Development Finance Group, Europe, Standard Chartered, said: “This transaction illustrates how portfolio‑based financing can support the scalable deployment of renewable energy at pace. By partnering with Elgin Energy and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, we are providing long‑term capital and disciplined structuring to support the development of large‑scale solar assets that contribute to the UK’s clean energy ambitions and create a platform for continued growth.”
