Standard Chartered advises Skyborn Renewables on landmark offshore wind project in Germany

8 July, London – Standard Chartered today announced its role as financial advisor to Skyborn Renewables in connection with the development, partnership and funding of the Gennaker offshore wind project in the German Baltic Sea.

Once operational, the Gennaker project is expected to have a capacity of approximately 976.5 megawatts (MW), making it the largest offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. The project represents a significant capital raise in the European offshore wind sector.

Skyborn Renewables, backed by Global Infrastructure Partners, a part of BlackRock, is developing the project in partnership with Stadtwerke München. Amazon has signed a long-term corporate power purchase agreement for 600 MW of the project’s capacity, supporting its commitment to carbon-free energy.

Standard Chartered acted as financial advisor to Skyborn Renewables, leveraging its deep sector expertise and strong investment banking capabilities to support the structuring and execution of this complex transaction. This mandate underscores the strength of the Bank’s advisory capabilities in Europe, particularly in the energy transition and renewables space.

Arnaud Bouille, Head, Clean Tech & Environment M&A, Europe & Africa at Standard Chartered said: “We are proud to advise Skyborn Renewables on the Gennaker project, one of the most significant offshore wind developments in Europe. Our ability to deliver strategic, end-to-end advice across complex capital structures reflects the strength of our platform and our commitment to supporting clients and sponsors in accelerating the shift to sustainable energy across Europe.”

The Gennaker offshore wind project is expected to play a key role in advancing Germany’s energy transition. Once completed, it will contribute significantly to the country’s target of reaching 30 gigawatts of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030, while strengthening energy security through increased domestic renewable generation in the Baltic Sea. Expected to become the largest offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea, the project will generate enough carbon-free electricity to power the equivalent of more than one million German households annually. The wind farm is expected to become operational by the end of 2028.
