Standard Chartered supports GBP3.6 billion financing for the East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm in the UK
4 days agoLondon, UK – 11 August 2025 – Standard Chartered is proud to announce its participation as Mandated Lead Arranger and Hedging Bank in the GBP3.6 billion project financing for East Anglia THREE, a flagship 1.4GW offshore wind farm located in the North Sea, approximately 69 km off the coast of Suffolk, UK.
The project is being developed by ScottishPower Renewables, the UK arm of Iberdrola, and is jointly owned by Masdar, following Masdar’s acquisition of a 50% stake in 2024. East Anglia THREE forms a central part of the wider East Anglia Hub, one of the UK’s largest offshore wind programmes.
Once operational in 2026, it is forecasted to generate clean electricity to power approximately 1.3 million UK homes, helping to realise the UK’s net-zero ambitions. The project anticipates up to 100 offshore wind turbines.
The transaction reached financial close in late July 2025 and was supported by a syndicate of 23 banks and the Danish Export Credit Agency (EIFO). The financing was oversubscribed by over 40%, reflecting strong investor appetite for high-impact renewable energy infrastructure.
As Mandated Lead Arranger and Hedging Bank, Standard Chartered supported the deal through coordination and structuring of senior debt facilities and the delivery of tailored interest rate and hedging solutions.
This landmark financing of East Anglia THREE demonstrates the Bank’s ability to structure and deliver sustainable capital at scale, supporting projects that have real-world impact, and reflecting its long-term commitment to mobilising sustainable capital in support of the energy transition.
