Sustainability in Jersey

Employee Volunteering

We encourage our employees to contribute to their local community and therefore strongly encourage volunteering to forge stronger relationships between Standard Chartered and the communities where we do business.

Volunteering gives our staff the opportunity to use their skills to make a unique contribution to organisations and causes they support. It also allows our staff to develop and learn new skills.

Under the Bank’s Employee Volunteering programme, employees are encouraged to take four days paid leave a year to volunteer on projects aligned with our community and environmental programmes.

Supporting communities through volunteering

Volunteering provides an opportunity for our staff to share their time, skills and expertise with local partners working on issues that matter in their communities.

Volunteering has a positive impact on our communities, employees and our broader business. That’s why we offer every employee three days paid leave to volunteer. Read more.

Empowering the next generation

The Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon

Standard Chartered proudly sponsors the Jersey Marathon and has been involved with the race since its inception in 2006. This major community event on the Island, held during October each year, attracts local and international participants and helps raise significant funds for good causes, such as St John Ambulance Jersey and Standard Chartered’s own global initiative Futuremakers.

The Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon is a race for everyone, traditionally with three race categories; the full marathon, the relay race comprising teams of five completing the full marathon course in relay sections ranging from approximately four to seven miles, and the ever popular, family friendly, 3k fun run.

The marathon is a great day that can have a significant effect on business, health and wellbeing, sportsmanship and community activity.

Last year, the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon’s organisers took the decision to cancel the 2020 Marathon, in full support of the Government of Jersey’s health and welfare guidelines put in place to keep Islanders safe during the coronavirus pandemic. Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon launched ‘Run from Home’, a challenge that provided runners from all over the world the opportunity to participate safely in a Jersey community event.

The 2021 Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon is taking place on Sunday 3 October.
