Post event Key Takeaways | Sustainable investing is one of the hottest topics these days. What is sustainable investing and why are investors turning to it? We spoke to Eugenia Koh and Paul Milon to understand more on sustainable investing and how we can contribute to being sustainable and profitable at the same time. In case you missed the webinar, here are some key takeaways: 1. Sustainability is not just environmentalism –Embedded in most definitions of sustainability, there are concerns for social equity and economic development. We can’t get to environmental sustainability without getting people on board and addressing human needs. 2. Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our times – To mitigate climate change, we must reduce or prevent the emissions linked to human activities. Addressing climate change requires us to decarbonize both energy supply and demand by 2050 to give the world an even chance of limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5 °C. Hence energy transition has become a huge focus point (USD90trn opportunity). 3. Sound stewardship equals sound results –Research has shown that companies that best manage their environmental and social impact and have better governance practices (ESG) are more profitable in the medium to long term. This suggests that sustainability and profitability can co-exist. Standard Chartered operates an open platform and we work with our partners to provide clients with access to high quality sustainable investment solutions via the following three approaches: a.
