Standard Chartered Foundation 2017 Key Initiatives:
  • Giving the Gift of Sight to underprivileged cataract patients
The Intraocular lens (IOL) project is one of the key projects carried out by SCF since 2013, contributing RM1.5 million to cover the costs of intraocular lenses required for cataract surgeries. Through this project, to date, more than 4,400 IOL lenses have been distributed to underprivileged cataract patients across Malaysia, helping them regain their sight.

According to the Ministry of Health, in 2017, approximately 50,000 Malaysians will be affected by cataracts with more than 2,700 patients not being able to afford to undergo cataract surgery due to the high cost of lenses. Through the 2017 Standard Chartered KL Marathon’s Run for a Reason (RFAR) programme, all money raised for SCF will be donated directly to the IOL project.

The goal is to give sight back to as many underprivileged cataract patients in Malaysia as possible.

  • Do Good, Feel Good
The foundation organises “Do Good” initiatives that are aligned to the Foundation’s pillars; Youth, Health and Education for the underprivileged community. SCF aims to bring joy to children and elderly from diverse homes through events and provision of items. Recently, the foundation sponsored 500 underprivileged children with back-to-school essentials such as school uniforms, school bags and stationeries and held a Chinese New Year Do Good event to bring cheer to more than 40 old folks from Rumah Caring, Kajang.

With Standard Chartered Bank covering all administrative costs, every Ringgit Malaysia you donate goes directly to the causes supported by the Foundation.
