Kuala Lumpur, 17 March 2015 – Kon Fui Sun of Kuala Lumpur is set for a money-can’t-buy-experience as she will be flying to the UK to watch Liverpool Football Club (“LFC”) play against Manchester United at Anfield this Sunday.

The 32-year-old Finance Manager emerged as the grand prize winner in Standard Chartered’s Liverpool Debit Card contest (“the contest”) which ran from 15 December 2014 to 15 February 2015.

Besides two Centenary Stand tickets for the match, she also won two return air tickets to the UK for with airport transfers, two nights’ hotel accommodation, stadium tour and RM1,000 spending money.

Commenting on her win, Kon said she was surprised to receive the news. “I increased my chances by making more incremental deposits into my JustOne account and performing more online bill payments during the contest period.”

“My sister is an avid LFC fan but she generously turned down my invitation to be my travel companion so that I could go with my husband. We have never been to the UK so we are truly excited and looking forward to it,” Kon said.

Alice Lin, Head of Retail Products, Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia, said: “As proud sponsor of Liverpool FC, this is one way the Bank rewards customers and LFC fans. The LFC debit card is an excellent way for the more than two million LFC fans in Malaysia to show their affinity. As Malaysia’s first bank, celebrating our 140th anniversary this year, we will continue to innovate and provide products that give great value to our customers.”

“As we move towards being a cashless society, anchored by Bank Negara Malaysia’s initiative to drive e-payments, the Bank’s debit card usage is expected to record double digit growth year-on-year. Debit cards are not only a convenience but also a good money management tool as expenses are deducted directly from the linked current or savings account,” Lin added.

The contest was held in conjunction with the release of a new card face for the LFC debit card that is exclusively available to Standard Chartered current and savings accountholders.

Lin explained: “This design is unique to Standard Chartered in Malaysia and not available in other markets. Undeniably LFC is a club with a strong heritage, as is Standard Chartered, and we are extremely proud to be associated with the club.”
