Standard Chartered clinches fourth Top SME Award in a row
CGC honours Bank's role in developing the local SME sector
Petaling Jaya, 27 June 2014 – Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia was recently awarded the Top SME Supporters' Award 2013 for the fourth consecutive time by Credit Guarantee Corporation Malaysia Berhad (CGC). This award is given out to financial institutions to mark their substantial contribution towards SME financing and development in 2013.
Eddie Hu, Head of Commercial Clients, Standard Chartered Malaysia said, “We are very honoured to be the only international bank to have won this award consecutively the past four years. The SME sector plays a vital role in Malaysia's economic growth and it has significant future growth potential. We are the leading international bank providing an extensive range of business solutions to cater to the banking needs of small and medium sized companies and to assist in the development of the SME sector in Malaysia; in line with the Government's agenda to provide greater financial access, especially to the underserved SME segments.
“We believe this will go a long way in ensuring that we are here for our SME clients and that we are committed to the successful growth and expansion of their businesses. It is exciting times ahead for this sector,” he added.
The awards were presented by CGC Chairman Dato' Agil Natt, witnessed by CGC President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Wan Azhar Wan Ahmad at CGC's headquarters in Petaling Jaya, after its 41st Annual General Meeting.
The award recognition was introduced in 1996 by CGC, with the objective of encouraging Financial Institutions (FIs) to increase their participation in SME sector development as well as to complement the efforts of the Government in encouraging FIs to avail financing to SMEs.
