
22 October 2015, KUALA LUMPUR – Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia (“the Bank”) observed World Sight Day with a host of activities at the lobby of Menara Standard Chartered on 19 October 2015.
Management and staff took part in games of mini socer and golf while being blindfolded to experience the challenges posed by visual impairment. Free eye checks were provided by professionals from Adriel Eye Health clinic and there was also an exhibition of photographs taken by students from the Special Education School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Setapak and Standard Chartered staff members.
World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. Since 2003, Standard Chartered Group has been supporting the prevention of avoidable blindness through its flagship Seeing is Believing (SiB) programme, which aims to raise USD100 million by 2020.
The Bank in Malaysia has run numerous programmes under SiB over the years. This year, staff is volunteering on a 6-month audio book project in association with Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB).
