Branch guidelines on 2000 notes discontinuation

With reference to the recent RBI circular No. DCM(Plg) No. S-236/10.27.00/2023-24 dated May 19th,2023 on “₹2000 Denomination Banknotes – Withdrawal from Circulation; Will continue as Legal Tender”, we hereby wish to inform you that –

  Account / Non – Account Holder Limit Documentation
Deposit of ₹2000 denomination bank notes  Standard Chartered Bank, India Account Holder No Limit No documents required if, KYC compliant account.
Exchange of ₹2000 denomination bank notes Standard Chartered Bank, India Account Holder – Customer in person  limit of ₹20,000/- at a time No documents required if, KYC compliant account.
Exchange of ₹2000 denomination bank notes Bearer exchanging on behalf of an existing SCB customer.  limit of ₹20,000/- at a time Required to submit an ‘Officially Valid Document’ for every transaction.
Exchange of ₹2000 denomination bank notes Non-Standard Chartered Bank customers.  limit of ₹20,000/- at a time Required to submit an ‘Officially Valid Document’ for every transaction.

Please find below list of acceptable OVD’s (Officially Valid Documents) as per RBI Master Direction on KYC. Any one of the below listed original document to be evidenced at bank counter with a self-attested copy to be submitted for every unique transaction.

  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • Proof of possession of Aadhaar number
  • Voter’s Identity Card issued by the Election Commission of India
  • Job card issued by NREGA duly signed by an officer of the State Government
  • Letter issued by the National Population Register containing details of name and address
