Agency Banking FAQ

1. What is agency banking?

Agency Banking is an arrangement that allows retail outlets serve as representative of Standard Chartered Bank to offer basic banking services to customers as defined by agency banking guidelines.

2.Where can I conduct agent banking transactions?

You can perform your agent banking transactions at any approved Standard Chartered Bank Agent with the SCB Agent Banking logo nationwide.

3.What is SANEF

The Shared Agent Network Expansion Facility is an initiative of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) supported by Deposit Money Banks (DMBs), Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement systems (NIBSS) and Licensed Mobile Money Operators / Shared Agent. You can access agent banking service at any Standard Chartered Bank agent locations or registered Agents with SANEF logo.

5.What types of transactions can I perform?

Whether as a Standard Charted Bank Nigeria customer or other bank in Nigeria customer, you can conduct the following;

  1. cash-in or deposit into bank account
  2. cash-in or deposit into bank accounts of 3rd parties
  3. cash-out or withdrawal from your bank account using your debit/ATM card

6.In which currency can I transact?

You will only be allowed to perform cash withdrawal and cash deposit transactions in Nigerian Naira.

7.What do I need to perform cash deposit and cash withdrawal transactions?

To conduct a cash deposit transaction, you (customer) will need the following:

  1. account number
  2. account title ( Name)

To conduct a cash withdrawal, you (customer) will need the following:

  1. active debit card and PIN

8.Are there any charges for conducting transactions?

As a Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria Customer, cash deposit and withdrawal transaction are free of charge. But as a customer of other Banks, cash deposit and withdrawal transaction fee will be charged as indicated below:

9.How will the charges be taken?

Charges will be advised upfront by the Agent in line with the approved tariff displayed at the Agent outlet. The charge will be paid by the customer in addition to the transaction amount.

10.Are the transactions real time?

Yes, both cash deposit and cash withdrawal transactions are real time.

11.How will I know the transaction has been completed?

  • Once the transaction is completed, you (customer) will receive an SMS instantly.
  • Email notification (if already registered) will be received at the end of the day.
  • Additionally, the agent will also provide a transaction receipt for every transaction
  • You (customer) must always collect the receipt from the agent

12.Can I do a transaction on Sundays and public holidays?

Yes, you (customer) can conduct the transaction on Sundays and public holidays depending on the agent’s locations operating days and hours.

13.In case the transaction is rejected or failed, how will I know?

In case the transaction is rejected or fails, the agent will provide you (customer) a receipt.

14.How will the transaction show in my bank statement?

Any cash deposit or cash withdrawal transaction done via agent banking will show with a narration of AGBK cash deposit/ AGBK cash withdrawal narration along with the agent name.

15.What should I do if I suspect there are unauthorised transactions on my account?

If you suspect any unauthorised transactions on your account, please report this to our Contact Centre if you are a Standard Chartered Bank customer. But to your Bank Contact centre if you are a customer of another Bank. Provide details such as:

  1. Your full name
  2. Account number
  3. Transaction type (cash withdrawal or cash deposit)
  4. Date and time of transaction
  5. Amount involved

16.What should I do if there is disputed transaction?

If there is a disputed transaction on your account, kindly report details of disputed transactions on your SC Mobile app or iBanking > Inbox > Compose with the details listed below. You may also notify the contact centre.

  • Your full name
  • Account number
  • Transaction type (cash withdrawal or cash deposit)
  • Date and time of transaction
  • Amount involved
  • Receipt of the transaction

Please Account holders of other Banks are required to log a complaint/report with their Bank

Note: Disputed scenarios can be any of the following;

  1. Cash deposit/ cash withdrawal at agent premises not reflecting in your account
  2. Cash deposit/ cash withdrawal at agent premises differs from what is credited/ debited in
    your account

You should call the Standard Chartered Bank 24-hour call contact centre and provide the transaction details/ date and the transaction receipt for the team to investigate.
