Corridors in focus: Our people – Linda Megawaty
As China-Indonesia trade and investment grow, corridor banker Linda Megawaty explains how she helps businesses navigate cross-border opportunities.
Corridors in focus: Our people. In this video series, we feature the enablers from Corporate & Investment Banking who play a crucial role in supporting the growth of our clients’ businesses across multiple markets. This month, we spotlight Linda Megawaty, a China – ASEAN corridor banker based in Indonesia.
Watch the video below to learn more about Linda’s story.

Understanding the connections behind cross-border growth
In cross-border banking, progress rarely follows a straight line. Deals linking markets such as China and Indonesia bring together different regulations, business cultures and ambitions, which can be intricate.
For China – ASEAN corridor banker Linda Megawaty, navigating that complexity is part of the appeal.
Her journey into banking was not conventional. Linda began her career in the education sector, where she developed a passion for connecting people and ideas across cultures. Over time, that curiosity expanded into a fascination with how businesses expand beyond their home markets.
Today, she works at the centre of one of Asia’s most dynamic economic routes: the China – Indonesia corridor.

A corridor shaped by trade, investment and opportunity
The China-Indonesia corridor is rising in prominence, with the economic relationship between China and Indonesia strengthening considerably over the past decade. China remains Indonesia’s largest trading partner, and a significant investor in sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing and technology.
As these ties deepen, companies and financial institutions increasingly look for trusted banking partners that understand both markets, and the regulatory, cultural and operational differences that shape cross-border transactions.
This is where corridor banking becomes essential.
Translating context, not just language
Linda notes that Mandarin language proficiency remains a niche skill within the Indonesian banking sector. Being well-versed in business Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesia and English has proven to be an asset for her when conversing with clients across the China – Indonesia corridor. Yet, language mastery is only the starting point.
“We don’t translate language,” she explains. “We translate context.”

And rightly so. Understanding how discussions unfold in one market – and how they may be interpreted in another – can determine whether a deal progresses smoothly or stalls.
Linda’s work often begins long before a transaction takes shape. She collaborates closely with clients to map their cross-border ambitions to Indonesia, anticipate regulatory considerations and connect them with the right stakeholders across markets.
“These transactions have many moving pieces,” she observes. “My job is to connect the dots – seamlessly and quickly.”
Turning international ambition into investment
Recently, Linda supported a client exploring opportunities linking Indonesia and Hangzhou, one of China’s major technology and innovation hubs. The project required coordination across senior executives, local stakeholders and government counterparts.
Acting as a super connector, Linda and her colleagues helped bring together the right people and institutions to guide the client through the process of entering a new market.
The result was not just a completed transaction, but another example of how cross-border investment strengthens economic ties between markets.

Connecting clients across global markets
Supporting international expansion requires more than local expertise. It depends on having a wide global network that spans the markets where clients operate.
With a presence across more than 50 markets and deep roots across ASEAN, we support corporates and financial institutions across ASEAN, China and beyond.
For businesses operating along the China-Indonesia corridor, that combination of local insight and global reach helps translate complex opportunities into practical outcomes.
Linda sees her role as fundamentally collaborative.
“Clients bring the vision,” she reflects. “We bring the cross-border expertise to make it real.”
In corridor banking, success is rarely defined by a single transaction – but by the relationships that make the next opportunity possible.
