From China to Dubai: A Relationship Manager’s global journey

Jason’s journey with Standard Chartered began in 2012 in China, where he held multiple roles, progressing from Relationship Manager to Team Manager, and to Branch Manager. These roles gave him a solid foundation in client management and leadership, preparing him for bigger challenges ahead.
The turning point came when he discovered the career opportunity in Dubai, a vibrant financial hub with global influence. Without hesitation, Jason made the leap, becoming the first global Chinese corridor banker in the UAE. It was a bold move, but one he felt fully prepared for thanks to his prior experience.

Growing through the Global Talent Mobility programme

“Working in Dubai expanded my understanding of wealth solutions and cross-border transactions,” he said. “It also taught me to navigate diverse stakeholder expectations and build relationships across regions.”
The exposure to clients from various backgrounds broadened his perspective, while collaborating with senior leaders increased his visibility within the organisation. These experiences opened new doors for Jason’s career.
Overcoming challenges with support
Transitioning to a new market wasn’t without its challenges. Learning about local regulations and connecting with stakeholders from different departments took time. However, the bank’s support system made the process smoother.
“My Line Manager and team members guided me every step of the way,” Jason explained. “The bank also provided resources to help me learn about new products and adapt to local practices.”
