Empowering careers through skills

Jace

At Standard Chartered, we believe that careers are built on skills, not just job titles. Jace Panchal’s journey with us is a shining example of how internal mobility and a focus on growth can unlock incredible opportunities.

Jace’s career at Standard Chartered Bank has been marked by mobility, with three role changes reflecting his desire for growth and new challenges. Moving from Client Coverage to the Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) – Chief Operating Officer Office to Compliance, Financial Crime and Conduct Risk (CFCR), different roles provided valuable exposure and strengthened his employability within the bank.

Jace describes his experience at Standard Chartered in three words: exciting, challenging, and rewarding as each move has brought new challenges and opportunities for growth, making his journey fulfilling and enriching.

Starting strong in Corporate & Investment Banking

Jace joined Standard Chartered in 2019 in Corporate & Investment Banking, where he focused on Client Lifecycle Management. His role was about guiding clients through their journey with the bank, from onboarding to being ready to trade. It was a tough yet rewarding start that helped Jace hone his expertise in process design and change management – skills that would serve him well in the future.

Taking on global challenges

After completing a major transformation initiative, Jace was ready for the next challenge. He moved into the CIB Chief Operating Officer Office as Programme Manager to lead the ISO 20022* Payments Programme. This global initiative required him to juggle complex planning, stakeholder management, and collaboration across teams. “It was a crash course in large-scale programme execution,” Jace recalls, adding that the exposure to senior leadership sharpened his strategic thinking.

Exploring new horizons in compliance

In 2023, Jace took on a short-term assignment with the Compliance, Financial Crime and Conduct Risk (CFCR) team. His mission? Building a risk framework for Renminbi (RMB) Clearing. This role gave him deeper insights into compliance processes and helped him forge strong connections within the function – relationships that would later prove pivotal in his career.

Empowered by managers and teams

Throughout his journey, Jace credits his managers and teams for their unwavering support. Whether it was recognising his aspirations or enabling his transitions, they played a pivotal role in his growth. He also highlights the bank’s Talent Marketplace, a platform that connects employees with short-term assignments and new opportunities, as instrumental in helping him explore diverse roles and expand his skillset.

Driving transformation in Compliance, Financial Crime and Conduct Risk (CFCR)

Today, Jace is Strategic Transformation Director within CFCR, leading efforts to simplify, standardize, and digitize how compliance advice is delivered globally. From creating service catalogues to driving AI-powered innovations, he’s helping shape the future of compliance at Standard Chartered. “It’s exciting to be part of something that will have such a lasting impact on how we operate as a bank,” he says.

Building skills for success

Jace’s journey has been marked by continuous learning and skill development. His earlier roles equipped him with expertise in project management, process design, stakeholder management, and change management—skills that have been pivotal in his current position.

Standard Chartered has also supported Jace through training and development opportunities. The Short-Term Assignment in CFCR was particularly impactful, allowing him to build relationships and gain knowledge that ultimately positioned him for his current leadership role.

A testament to growth

Jace’s story reflects Standard Chartered’ s commitment to fostering talent and creating a skill-based organization. His journey, from Client Coverage to Strategic Transformation, shows how transferable skills, internal mobility, and collaborative relationships can unlock new opportunities. As Jace puts it, “At Standard Chartered, your career is defined by your skills and potential.”

If you’re looking for a workplace that invests in you and empowers you to grow, Standard Chartered might just be the place where your own transformation begins.
