Where did you study, and what subject did you study?

I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and a Minor in Analytics, conferred by  Singapore University of Social Sciences.

Did you always know what you wanted to do when you had finished studying?

Definitely not! At different stages of my life, different career paths intrigued me. From trying out marketing to finance to analytics, I was often stuck on what I wanted to do, but through internships, I figured out what I enjoyed, and what I didn’t. Keep exploring and never settle!

What drew you to apply to Standard Chartered? What made the graduate programme stand out to you?

I was actually seeking out internship opportunities ahead of my final year of university. Standard Chartered has always been a familiar name to me and hence there was no second doubts when it came to applying for an internship.

The journey from an intern to a graduate was competitive, but I was lucky to have been offered a graduate role post my summer internship, and I continued my journey with Standard Chartered as a graduate. The programme provided networking opportunities and insights to the different business functions, which helps graduates to gain clarity on how a bank functions. I also liked the culture here, where there are supportive mentors (which I believe is crucial for any junior stepping into their first job).

How has your career progressed since you joined us? Can you tell us about the learning and development you’ve received?

I have just completed the graduate programme in 2025 and got promoted to an Associate. I was given many opportunities to seize the wheels, which allowed me to grow within the role, and gained visibility among my stakeholders.

How would you describe the culture at the Bank?

I am pleased to have colleagues that are helpful and encouraging around me. I used to have good mentors that helped me to get started on the job, and these are efforts that are really well appreciated.

What’s the best thing about working for Standard Chartered?

Work-life balance is great here and you can expect good team cultures instilled across the organisation. I am also jetting off to London for my Junior Overseas Assignment for 3 weeks and I am thankful for this opportunity provided. Standard Chartered is a global bank, which opens up opportunities for internal overseas mobility, which is a huge bonus point for me!

Could you use three words to describe life at Standard Chartered?

Engaging, fast-paced and dynamic.

What advice/hints and tips would you give to someone looking to work at Standard Chartered?

In a room full of intellects, having the right attitude and mindset would set you apart from your peers. Don’t be afraid to share your thoughts and always remain inquisitive!

What sort of person would succeed in your team?

Someone curious, someone analytical and someone who is up for a challenge!
