Biswajyoti Upadhyay

Biswajyoti Upadhyay (BJ) is Head of Transaction Banking HK. He also assumes the responsibilities as Greater China & North Asia Regional TB Co-Head. His role encompasses managing the business end to end. He is designated as a material risk taker and interacts with regulators on product roll out and risk governance. He has been in HK for 4 years during which he was Regional Head of Trade, Transaction Banking for GCNA. He has been instrumental in driving the trade digitization plan with blockchain led platforms with HKMA and PBOC.

Prior to HK, BJ spent 4 years in Shanghai as the Head of Global Corporate Sales, Greater China and Acting Head Transaction banking China. Before moving to Shanghai, BJ has spent 8 years in Middle East in different roles.

He has over 19 years of Corporate Banking experience across Operations, client relationship management and Transaction Banking and has worked in different geographies including Middle East, South Asia and more recently in North Asia with SCB. He is a subject matter expert in working capital & treasury advisory, liquidity management, trade risk and supply chain finance.

BJ is experienced in making effective business decisions and prioritizing opportunity to deliver performance across multi geography involving different regulatory and compliance environment. He is effective in working through and managing ambiguity, in a matrix organization structure.

A balanced leader with strong skills in areas of strategy formulation and execution, change management, sales and digitization. Experienced in successfully seeding new businesses and technology innovation. A proven track record of effectively managing cross functional teams and clients over a diverse geography.  A good eye to seek and nurture talent within the team and build people follower-ship, future managers and leaders.

BJ has an MBA in Finance and International trade from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi, India and a Master’s in Biotechnology.
