Charles Corbett

Charles joined Standard Chartered Bank in 1998 after graduating from Exeter University with a Joint Honours degree in French and Russian. Having completed the Bank’s Graduate Training Programme, Charles has enjoyed a variety of roles within the Client Coverage, Corporate Finance and Capital Markets divisions, becoming one of the bank’s youngest Managing Directors. Charles has lived and worked in several developed and developing markets across Standard Chartered’s footprint in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. He has successfully completed the Bank’s leadership courses at Insead and Oxford University and has served on several of the Bank’s leadership forum over the past fifteen years including the CEO Leadership Team and the Financial Institutions Management Team.

Charles’ international postings include two years in Mumbai as Regional Head of Capital Markets for South Asia, during which time he was involved in international acquisitions by leading Indian corporates within the Steel, Telecoms and Food & Beverage sectors totalling tens of billions of dollars. He was elected by his industry peers as Chairman of the Indian branch of the Asia Pacific Loan Markets Association during his posting and appeared regularly in the Indian financial media.

In 2013, Charles returned to London to focus on the Bank’s African markets, running the African Syndications business before moving in January 2021 to a new role as Head of Sovereigns, Multilaterals and Financial Institutions for Africa within SC’s Global Credit Markets; a merger between SC’s Corporate Finance and Financial Markets divisions. During this time Charles was a regular speaker at industry events and a contributor to industry publications related to Emerging Markets and co-author of the Loan Market Association’s handbook on African loan markets.

Over the last ten years, Charles has led many benchmark and first-in-class transactions for Sovereigns and Financial Institutions in Africa, helping to mobilise large scale international capital from across Standard Chartered’s global network in partnership with the Bank’s leading Debt Capital Markets and Sustainable Finance teams.

In July 2024, Charles was appointed Global Head of Public Sector responsible for the Bank’s relationships with Governments, Central Banks, Multilateral Agencies & Development Organisations, Microfinance Institutions, and other Public Sector related institutions. He also serves as a Board Member of Standard Chartered Bank Ivory Coast.

Charles lives in Hampshire with his wife and three teenage children, travelling frequently.
