David Tang was appointed as an independent non-executive director of Standard Chartered PLC in June 2019.

Experience

David has a deep understanding and experience of emerging technologies in the context of some of our key markets, most notably Mainland China.

He has more than 30 years of international and Chinese operational experience in the technology and venture capital industries, covering venture investments, sales, marketing, business development, research and development, and manufacturing.

Career

From 1989 to 2004, David held several senior positions at Apple, Digital Equipment Corp and 3Com based in China and across the Asia Pacific region.

From 2004 to 2010, he held various positions at Nokia, including Corporate Vice President, Chair of Nokia Telecommunications Ltd and Vice Chair of Nokia (China) Investment Co. Ltd.

David went on to become Corporate Senior Vice president and Regional President of Advanced Micro Devices, Greater China. He subsequently joined NGP Capital (Nokia Growth Partners) in Beijing as Managing Director and partner in 2013, a position he held until retiring in June 2021. After stepping down, David became an Advisor, until June 2025.

David was an independent non-executive director of Kingsoft Corporation, a leading Chinese software and internet services company until stepping down in April 2023. He was formerly Chief Value Officer at Kaiyun Energy from June 2021, before retiring in June 2025.
