Sunil was appointed Standard Chartered Co-Head, Corporate and Investment Banking effective 1 April 2024. In addition, he has responsibility for our ASEAN and South Asia markets and is a member of Group Management Team. He is based in Singapore.
Career
Sunil has been with Standard Chartered for over 26 years and has over 36 years of banking experience in key markets across North, South East and South Asia, Middle East and Africa. Prior to his current appointment, he held the role of Regional CEO Africa and Middle East (AME) at the Bank from October 2015.
Sunil held senior roles across Wholesale, Retail, SME Banking and Country Management within the Group including Regional CEO of Standard Chartered South Asia and CEO India, Head of Corporate Banking in UAE, Head of Origination and Client Coverage in Singapore, Global Head Small and Medium Enterprises and New Ventures in Singapore and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Taiwan.
He led the acceleration of Standard Chartered’s digital transformation in the AME region with the launch of digital banks across nine markets in Africa. He also oversaw the digitisation of the Bank’s wealth management offering.
Sunil holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Bombay University, India, and has a post-graduate qualification as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
Sunil was named the Banking CEO of the Year by EMEA Finance in 2018 and twice by CEO Middle East magazine in 2019 and 2023
