3D SecureTM is a new security feature on the Standard Chartered Debit Cards which is powered by Visa

Non-3D SecureTM transactions

Transaction gets authorized

3D SecureTM transactions

Use details on the card: card number, expiry date, (CVV)
One time Password(OTP) gets generated
OTP gets sent to your registered email id & mobile number
Only if the OTP is correct & the card details are correct will the transaction get authorized

Key benefits

  • Use your Standard Chartered Debit Card for Online purchases in a safe and secure manner
  • No hassle of registration will be required for enabling online purchases
  • No transaction will be authorised without entering the One Time Password (OTP) sent to the customer’s registered email address &/or mobile number. As a result, instances of fraudulent usage of your Debit Card on electronic sites will be minimised considerably

How does it work?

The 3D SecureTM feature offers enhanced security through an additional SMS/email authentication process when you pay online with your Standard Chartered Debit Card on websites that have incorporated the ‘Verified by Visa’. This ensures that only you as the cardholder will be able to complete the online purchase.

Keep your contact information updated

  • Please ensure that your latest mobile number and email address are updated with Standard Chartered Bank as the OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number and email address
  • Please ensure that you have enabled pop-up windows in your browser as you will be required to enter the OTP on a pop-up window on the payment page
  • Please note that some websites are not 3D SecureTM compliant and hence do not ask for One Time Password (OTP) to authorise the transactions. These transactions are inherently unsafe as details on the card (card number, expiry date and CVV code) are sufficient to carry out the transaction. Standard Chartered Debit Card transactions on such websites will be declined.

3D SecureTM is an online security feature that is powered by Visa for Debit Card transactions that are carried out online. This feature protects you from unauthorised online purchases as you will be required to provide a one-time password (OTP) that is sent to your registered mobile number when you make any online purchases on websites bearing the “Verified by Visa” sign.

No, this additional authentication process is applicable only to websites that have enabled the security feature. You will be able to identify if the website is enabled for 3D SecureTM i.e. if the “Verified by Visa” sign is displayed on the website.

3D SecureTM protects you against unauthorized online purchases as you will be required to enter an OTP, that will be sent to your mobile number and/or email address, before you can complete the online purchase. This additional authorization step ensures that only you, as the cardholder, will have the password required to complete the transaction.

The 3D SecureTM feature is a free security feature on all Standard Chartered Debit Cards.

No, the 3D SecureTM feature is applicable across Standard Chartered Chip and PIN Debit Cards.

You can update your mobile number and email address by:

Contacting Phone banking at (+973) 17 531 532. For Priority Banking clients call 80001400.
Logging into online banking and updating your email ID

The 3D SecureTM feature is a safe and secure mode of carrying out transactions as each transaction can only be authenticated by a One Time Password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number and email address. In order to minimise fraudulent transactions on your card, your Standard Chartered Bank Debit Card will not work on websites that have not enabled the 3D SecureTM feature.
