We’re joining forces with Liverpool FC to empower girls to stay in sport.
What we’re doing
In partnership with Liverpool FC, we’ve launched the ‘Play On’ initiative with the aim to inspire, empower and educate girls to participate in sport.
Providing a platform for girls to learn life skills through play
Giving girls an equal opportunity to test their sporting ability competitively
Increasing the visibility of girls in football
Providing support and training for female grassroots coaches
Emphasising the importance of female role models mentoring girls in sport
Creating a supportive environment for girls to learn and enjoy sport
Train the Trainer: Keep girls in play
Introducing the ‘Train the Trainer’ programme – a collaboration between Standard Chartered and Liverpool FC, dedicated to equipping local Futuremakers by Standard Chartered coaches with the skills to empower girls in their community to succeed through sport. Find out more about how you can shape brighter futures through this curriculum developed by our panel of experts.

Empowering girls playing sport
The advantages of playing sport are clear. From excelling in school to propelling them forward in their careers, sport has been shown to positively influence and equip young women with transferable skills such as leadership, teamwork and resilience, that will help throughout each stage of life.

Why we want girls to play on
Even though sport has been shown to positively influence and equip young women with transferable skills, participation in sport during girls’ formative years drastically decreases around the world from age 14 due to a mix of social, societal, personal and cultural issues.
