Moh Naeem

A career shaped by many homes

Across the places Moh Naeem has called home, the moments that have stayed with him were not always the loudest ones. They were the experiences that taught him how to solve problems patiently, listen closely and make room for different ways of seeing the world.

Today, based in Hong Kong, Moh reflects on a career that has taken him across countries, cultures and roles, while continuously shaping his perspective on leadership, technology and belonging.

A career of technical depth, leadership and reinvention

Moh’s career has never followed a single path. At different stages, he has been a problem-solver, a team leader, a builder of better tools and processes and increasingly, a leader who understands both systems and people.

He began his journey with Standard Chartered in Mumbai, where he worked as a Unix Administrator. The role provided a strong technical foundation, teaching him how to diagnose issues carefully, understand complex systems and stay calm when solutions were not immediately obvious. The work was often carried out behind the scenes, but it developed qualities that would remain constant throughout his career: rigour, precision and the persistence required to keep critical systems running smoothly.

The important shift

As a Technology Lead in Singapore, Moh discovered that leadership was not only about having the right technical answer. It was about helping others find clarity, confidence and common ground. It was also where he began to see technology as much more than systems and infrastructure. It was about people, relationships and shared ownership.

His next move took him to Malaysia, where he led technology support teams while adapting to a new market and supporting colleagues through the demands of day-to-day delivery.

Later, working within an international technology organisation, he progressed from Technical Manager to Head of Tools and Automation. The focus shifted from solving individual issues to improving the tools, processes and automation that enabled teams to work more efficiently and effectively. During this period, he also completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science, a significant milestone that reflected the curiosity and commitment to learning that has underpinned his career.

Today, as a Senior Manager in Country Technology Management in Hong Kong, Moh brings together years of technical expertise, cross-cultural experience and leadership.

The role draws on many of the lessons accumulated throughout his journey, from the technical discipline developed in Mumbai and the collaborative leadership shaped in Singapore, to the adaptability strengthened in Malaysia and the broader perspective gained through working across different markets.

Traditions that create connection

Away from job titles and career milestones, some of Moh’s strongest memories are much simpler – A table being set. Food being shared. Traditions being opened so others could feel part of them.

As he moved between countries, he found himself carrying traditions with him and recreating them in new ways. Festive meals inspired by Hari Raya, gatherings influenced by Singapore’s multicultural celebrations and small customs shaped by life in Hong Kong became ways of keeping those places present with family and friends back home – over time, he brought the same spirit into the workplace.

During Ramadan, inviting colleagues to share a meal became more than an act of hospitality. It became an opportunity to exchange stories, explain traditions and help others understand the significance behind them.

Creating space for curiosity and belonging

That same instinct to bring people together now shapes Moh’s contribution to the Heritage Colleague Community. What began through small acts of hospitality has grown into a broader effort to help colleagues understand the different stories, customs and identities that shape the people they work alongside every day.

For Moh, heritage is not something that should sit at the margins. It becomes richer when people are encouraged to ask questions, listen and learn from one another’s experiences. In that sense, the Heritage Colleague Community is about more than visibility. It creates opportunities for curiosity, openness and belonging to become part of everyday workplace interactions.

What we can carry forward

The common thread running through every chapter of Moh’s journey has been openness to unfamiliar places, different customs and new perspectives. His story reminds us that heritage is not fixed in one location or moment in time. It is shaped by what we carry with us, what we learn along the way and what we choose to share with others.

Perhaps growth begins in allowing each place, each role and each encounter to expand who we become.
