A week in the life of a Client Coverage Apprentice

Since beginning my apprenticeship in 2022 within Corporate Coverage, my career has evolved rapidly – building both my technical expertise and my confidence working with clients, shaping both my professional capabilities and personal growth.

I joined the Bank’s first Client Coverage Apprenticeship programme, completing the Level 4 Investment Operations Specialist Certificate in 2022. During this time, I developed a strong foundation in banking operations and corporate coverage, alongside key skills in communication, organisation, and stakeholder management. Balancing full-time work with professional study strengthened my resilience, time management, and commitment to continuous development.

In 2024 I progressed into a Client Manager role within the Coverage team. This opportunity allowed me to deepen my understanding of key internal processes and gain greater exposure to the operational framework which underpins client delivery for the wider front-line team. This role’s key skills included managing complexity, collaborating cross-functionality, and taking ownership of deliverables.

Most recently I have transitioned into an Assistant Relationship Banker role, assisting the GAM team within the International Corporates. This move provides me greater opportunity to broaden my exposure to client orientation and relationship management, allowing me to support senior bankers with managing key client relationships. A key component of the role is actively assisting the GAMs to manage the diverse portfolio, contributing to strategic discussions, client analysis, and ongoing relationship development.
