Seeking balance in movement, words, and the world beyond

As a Vice President in the Workforce Management & Business Services Team at Standard Chartered, Debashrita’s days are defined by complex challenges, fast-paced decisions and the constant energy of moving things forward. However when she steps outside of work and you’ll find her in a very different rhythm – one defined by movement, expression, and discovery. It’s in that contrast that she finds clarity.

A discipline that grounds

As a trained classical dancer, she has spent years embracing a practice that demands patience, rigor, and humility. “No matter where you are, you’re always a student,” she reflects. Dance has a way of grounding her, keeping her connected to the idea that growth is continuous. Every rehearsal, every performance is a reminder that mastery is never final. Standing in front of an audience builds more than confidence; it builds presence. The ability to hold your space, to perform under pressure and to move forward with a smile, regardless of what happens. A mindset she carries with her well beyond the stage.

Finding expression through words

For Deb, if dance is structured, poetry is freedom. Writing allows her to tap into a different part of herself – one that is unfiltered, reflective and deeply personal. Through poetry, she documents moments, emotions and perspectives shaped by everyday life. It becomes a quiet but powerful outlet – a space to pause, process, and give meaning to experiences that often go unnoticed in the rush of daily routines. It’s less about perfection and more about honesty and expression.

Expanding through exploration

Her love for the outdoors and travel brings yet another dimension to her journey. Stepping into new environments, cultures and experiences has broadened the way she sees the world. It’s not just about where she goes, but how it shifts her thinking, opening her up to new ideas, diverse perspectives and ways of doing things differently. This openness naturally flows into her work. She actively seeks out contrarian views, listens with intent and focuses on finding the balance between what needs to be delivered and how best to deliver it.

Time away from work isn’t just a break – it’s essential.

It’s where she unwinds, reconnects with herself and builds a stronger, more grounded version of who she is. Whether it’s through dance, writing, or travel, each pursuit adds depth to how she is professionally. At Standard Chartered, having the space to nurture these interests makes that balance possible. It allows her to bring not just skills, but perspective, creativity and authenticity into her role every day.
