Developing myself and others
After eight years as Regional Lead for Risk and Control (R&C), supporting the Corporate and Investment Banking Coverage team across Zambia and Southern Africa, I transitioned into my current role as Country Head of Operational, Technology and Cyber Risk (OTCR) for Zambia. This transition has not only represented a significant step in my own professional growth but has also strengthened my ability to develop others by sharing experience, building capability, and helping colleagues navigate chalenging risk environments.
Before moving into R&C, I served as Senior Credit Manager for International Corporates, Local Corporates and SMEs, building on the career path I began when I joined SCB Zambia in 2010. Each role gave me opportunities to learn from others while also providing guidance, practical risk insights and constructive challenge to the frontline (Relationship Managers and Credit Analysts).
As Regional Lead for R&C, I gained broad exposure to risk management across Zambia and the Southern Africa cluster, with oversight of five additional African markets. Following a strategic change in 2022, my coverage was refined to four markets until I assumed my current role. Working across multiple markets enabled me to coach teams, promote consistent risk practices, and encourage knowledge-sharing between countries so that colleagues could learn from common challenges and practical solutions.
These above roles also strengthened my engagement with senior management, who recognised the value of my contribution and support to their markets.
My current role continues to stretch me professionally, providing meaningful opportunities to learn, lead and deliver across a broader risk agenda. I remain committed to excelling in this role, meeting my responsibilities with discipline, and using my experience to support, guide and develop colleagues and teams around me. For me, development is not limited to personal progression; it is also about creating a positive impact by mentoring others, strengthening risk awareness, encouraging collaboration, and helping colleagues build the confidence and capability to lead in their own areas.
