A transformative beginning: Joining Standard Chartered Bank   

Edward joined Standard Chartered Bank in Zambia in 2016 as Retail Transformation Head. Drawn to the bank’s global reputation and values that aligned with his own, he saw it as the perfect place to grow both professionally and personally. “I knew I was stepping into an organisation that would challenge me and help me evolve into a better version of myself.” Edward recalls. And he was right, his journey has been nothing short of transformative. 

In 2019, he moved on to become Head, Digital Banking, a role he occupied until 2022 when he was appointed General Manager for Personal Banking. “I always thought I had a place in this bank, and my journey validates my intuition.”

Making the Move 

In 2025, Edward took on an exciting new role as Business Planning Manager & Chief of Staff to the Head of Wealth and Retail Banking for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), relocating to the UAE. This move was pivotal, exposing him to diverse markets and global dynamics.   

The move was thrilling! It has given me an opportunity to work with talented colleagues outside my home country and broaden my perspective — not just about work, but life in general

Leadership support: The key to mobility 

What made this transition seamless was the unwavering support from leadership and Standard Chartered’s robust internal mobility framework. Edward vividly remembers the encouragement he got to apply for the role: “The support was invaluable. My CEO simply said, ‘Go for it’. “That level of encouragement is empowering”.  

Thriving in his current role   

Edward’s current role is multifaceted, requiring strategic planning, collaboration across markets, stakeholder engagement, and effective communication. It’s a role that exposes me to different market dynamics across multiple geographies, each with its own unique context.   

“Taking up a new role in a different market might not always be an easy combination”. My line manager has been extremely supportive in my settling. Sitting under such a seasoned leader and interacting with colleagues from different parts of our network has been such a privilege.” Edward says enthusiastically.   

“This role has deepened my understanding of our wealth and retail strategy through development of a global view of our bank”. This has helped him contribute more to the bank’s success.   

Building transferable skills for success   

Edward’s previous roles equipped him with a wealth of transferable skills that prepared him for success in his current position. Leading retail transformation taught him adaptability and problem-solving, while driving digital banking strategy honed his collaboration, stakeholder management, analytical thinking, and strategic planning skills.   

Standard Chartered amplified Edward’s growth through its global talent development programme. “The classroom training at Singapore Management University and personalized coaching sessions were game-changers,” Edward notes.
