Improving eye-care in Sichuan

We’re helping improve access to affordable eye-care in China, thanks to Seeing is Believing's partnership with ORBIS International.

We're helping improve access to affordable eye-care in Sichuan, China, which has particularly high levels of blindness.

As a nation, China accounts for 17 per cent of the world’s blindness.

How Seeing is Believing is making a difference

Seeing is Believing is providing US$1 million of funding, towards a project that will help nine local hospitals increase their services. Thanks to this project, cataract surgeries in the region have already increased by 10 per cent, helping children like Zhang Lun to see again.

The project will also develop the training capacity at the West China hospital in Chengdu, so that the region has the means to continue to develop eye-care expertise in the future.

We're not stopping there

The project will continue until 2015, aiming to reach over 1.3 million people in Sichuan through screening, treatment and health education.
