3D Secure™

Enjoy peace of mind when making online purchases with your Standard Chartered credit or debit card thanks to 3D Secure™, powered by Visa and Mastercard.

  • What is 3D Secure?

3D Secure™ is an online security feature powered by Visa and Mastercard for credit and debit card transactions carried out online. It protects you from unauthorised online purchases as you will be required to provide a one-time password (OTP) that is sent to your registered mobile number when making purchaseson websites bearing the “Verified by Visa” or “Mastercard SecureCode” sign.

  • Is 3D Secure applicable for all online purchases?

No, this additional authentication process is applicable only to websites that have enabled the security feature. You will know if the website is enabled for 3D Secure™ if the “Verified by Visa” or “Mastercard SecureCode” sign is displayed on the website.

  • How does 3D Secure protect me against unauthorised transactions?

Before you can complete your online purchase, you must enter a one-time password (OTP), that will be sent to your mobile number and/or email address. This additional authorisation step ensures that only the cardholder will have the password required to complete the transaction.

  • How much does the 3D secure feature cost?

It is a free security feature on all Standard Chartered credit and debit cards.

  • Do I need to apply for a new Standard Chartered credit or debit card to enable the 3D Secure feature?

No, it is applicable across all Standard Chartered Chip and PIN credit and debit cards.

  • How can I update my mobile number and email address?

Contact Phone Banking on (+971) 600 5222 88 (Personal Banking customers) or (+971) 8004949 (Priority Banking clients). You can also update your details by logging in to online banking.

  • How does 3D Secure work?

3D Secure works in a 5 step process.
Step 1: Make an online purchase at any website with the ‘Verified by Visa’ or ‘MasterCard SecureCode’ sign.
Step 2: Enter your Standard Chartered credit or debit card details during the checkout process.
Step 3: You will receive a One Time Password sent to your mobile phone and email address.
Step 4: You’ll be asked to enter the One Time Password you receive.
Step 5: Your transaction will be completed and you can relax knowing you are protected.
