Factors to consider when applying for a Credit Card

Credit Card rewards

Research into the reward program offered by the credit card you are applying for. Different cards offer different reward programs tailored to specific categories such as cashback for dining, groceries or petrol and points redemption for travel or merchandise.

Credit limit

The credit limit is the maximum amount you can charge to your credit card. The credit limit is based on factors such as age, income and credit history. You should be mindful of the credit limit amount and your credit utilisation rate.

Minimum payment

This is the minimum monthly payment amount required. You must pay this minimum payment amount by the due date to avoid late fees and other penalties. Be mindful that paying only the minimum amount can lead to compounded interest charges on the remaining unpaid amount, and a longer time to pay off your total credit card balance.

Annual fees and other charges

There are fees charged for credit cards and this includes annual fees, late payment fees, foreign transaction fees and cash advance fees. It is imperative to be aware of these charges.
