  • Immediately report the incident to the Bank to have your online banking blocked and OTP generation disabled.
  • Proceed to reach out to your telecom to block your SIM Card to avoid any impersonation incidences.
  • Never save your bank details, online login credentials, passwords on your passwords should your phone be stolen, the fraudster will have easy access your platforms.

  • Do not share your Card details with anyone i.e. your PIN, 16 digits at the front of the card, and 3 digits at the back of the card should be kept secret.
  • Don’t let your debit card out of your sight during a point-of-sale transaction
  • Don’t share your Debit/ATM Card details/image on social media, even partially hidden details can be used by fraudsters.

  • Sometimes threats are disguised in form of ‘help’. Avoid seeking help from strangers in or around the ATM lobby. If you need assistance, please engage a Standard Chartered staff wearing a staff ID.
  • Ensure you cover the ATM keypad with your hand while inputting your PIN to prevent another person from seeing it.
  • Shred transactional statements before disposing of them.

  • You are advised to only access our online banking services through the official Bank website ( https://www.sc.com/ug/ ) with a “padlock” sign to indicate that it is secure or the SC Mobile App available on google plays/app store.
  • Set a strong password that cannot easily be guessed and change it regularly. Don’t save it in your phone or write it down always memorize your passwords. Enable biometric locks (fingerprint or face ID feature) on your SC Mobile app.
  • Don’t log onto your banking platform using public Wi-Fi and don’t save your passwords in browser fields.
  • Remember to always log out of your online banking platforms before closing the browser.
  • Ensure you receive transactional alerts if not reach out to the Bank to have this feature enabled.
  • Keep your banking app and devices updated to ensure the latest security protection.

  • Keep your passwords secure: do not store them digitally on file or in plain sight.
  • Use unique passwords for each account and change them regularly.
  • Passphrases are a great replacement to help you create passwords that you can easily remember.
  • Opt in for two factor authentication for email access on new devices whenever possible.
  • Don’t click on links or download files from unsolicited emails or reply to emails asking you to update or verify account information.
  • If you are suspicious, contact the email sender directly (don’t reply to the email) to verify the email and requested information.
  • Standard Chartered will never send you links to log in to your online banking or to any transactional websites. In the event that you lose possession of any of your banking instruments or devices, please contact the Bank immediately via our contact centre (+256) 200524100 / (+256) 313294100, or visit our nearest branch.

  • Monitor your account activity regularly and report any unfamiliar transactions immediately.
  • Make sure your correct email address and phone number is linked to your account, so you can receive updates on transactions as well as be notified if there are any changes to your contact information.
  • If you notice any changes in your account that you haven’t made, notify us immediately.
  • You are encouraged to delete text messages about your banking transactions after reading and acting on them.
  • Avoid clicking on unknown links in emails or SMSs, they may lead to fake website designed to steal your information.
  • Only shop or make payments on secure websites, look for ‘https://’ and a padlock icon in the address bar.
  • Try to analyze the sender’s email addresses before replying or sharing sensitive information and If in doubt, contact the bank through our designated communication channels.
Notify us immediately in case you encounter any of these scenarios while accessing your online banking account:
  • There are unusual delays, pop-up screens, messages or instructions for additional steps when accessing the Online Banking platform
  • You receive an unexpected or multiple requests for One-time-passcodes (OTPs)
  • 2 Factor Authentication alert not received when logging into or while making a transaction on Online Mobile Banking account.
