Standard Chartered Group CEO in maiden visit to Malaysia
Reiterates opportunities in and importance of the country to the Bank
KUALA LUMPUR, 13 September 2016 – Standard Chartered Group Chief Executive Officer, Bill Winters paid a visit to Malaysia, his first ever visit since his appointment as Group CEO.
During his stay, Mr Winters, together with Ajay Kanwal, Regional CEO, ASEAN & South Asia and Mahendra Gursahani, MD and CEO Malaysia, took the opportunity to meet with key clients and industry captains; and mingled with staff to share his vision and aspirations for the Bank. They also took the opportunity to meet with senior officials from Bank Negara Malaysia to reinforce Standard Chartered’s commitment to the country.
Prior to assuming his role as Group CEO, Mr Winters had a distinguished career in banking. He spent 26 years with JP Morgan in diverse leadership roles, and became Co-Chief Executive Officer of the investment bank before stepping down in 2009. He was the only banker to be invited to be a committee member of the Independent Commission on Banking, established by the UK government in 2010 to recommend ways to improve competition and financial stability in banking.

Bill Winters met with Bank Negara Malaysia Governor, Datuk Muhammad bin Ibrahim, to gain valuable insights into the Malaysian financial services sector during his maiden visit.
