The Board of Trustees: (as per 17th February 2015)

SCF is administered by a Board of Trustees, comprising seven (7) members with three (3) senior management members of the Bank and four (4) independent members. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees is the current Chief Executive Officer of the Bank.

The Board oversees a Working Committee which is responsible for the day-to-day management of the SCF. A Working Committee comprises eight (8) senior officers of the Bank appointed by the Board, representing various divisions to administer the Foundation. The Working Committee is chaired by the current Country Head of Corporate Affairs who is also a member of Board of Trustees.

Mahendra Gursahani is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad (SCBMB) and was appointed to the Board on 17 February 2015. As the Managing Director and CEO, Mahendra is responsible for the implementation of Standard Chartered’s business strategies and overall Corporate Governance for SCBMB and also for the Group’s operations in Malaysia.

Prior to this appointment, Mahendra was the Chief Executive Officer and Head of Retail Clients, Standard Chartered Bank Philippines.

Mahendra’s career with Standard Chartered Bank began over 20 years ago and has varied across its businesses in the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Africa, Europe and Americas. Mahendra’s experience spans Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, Credit Risk Management, Asset Management, Audit, Risk and a variety of roles in Finance.

Prior to Standard Chartered Bank, he served with the American Express Bank in Mumbai, India. Mahendra started his career with Arthur Andersen in London.

An Australian national, Mahendra is a Chartered Accountant, having qualified in London with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Datuk Seri Micheal K C Yam, had an illustrious career spanning 30 years in the construction, real estate and corporate sectors with the last 12 years until 2008, helming 2 different award winning public listed property companies. Michael Yam was awarded the prestigious “CEO of the Year 2002” Award by Business Times and American Express Corporate Services.

In 2009, he established a private equity and project management consultancy known as Impetus Partnership Sdn Bhd. He is currently appointed as an independent director on the Boards of Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad, Standard Chartered Saadiq Bank, Paramount Corporation Berhad and Government incorporated companies CLAB Berhad and Malaysia Property Incorporated. He also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of UK based Chartered Institute of Building and Standard Chartered Trust Fund and is a director of the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce. He is the current President of the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association of Malaysia and serves as a member of the Advisory Board to the Mayor and City of Kuala Lumpur.

DATO’ LIM SAY CHONG

Dato’ Lim Say Chong was appointed as Standard Chartered Trust Fund Trustee on 15 June 2009.

He was appointed to the Board of Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad from 1994, following the bank’s local incorporation, as an independent non-executive director until March 2009. He had also served as the Chairman of the Risk Committee and the Audit Committee of the Bank.

Dato’ Lim was the Group Managing Director of Chemical Company Malaysia Berhad from 1999 till September 2004. Dato’ Lim held several senior positions during his 30 years career with the ICI Group in Malaysia and abroad.

Datuk Ahmad A. Talib has more than 30 years of editorial experience prior to his current position as Executive Director, News & Editorial for both Media Prima and the News Straits Times Press.

He is actively involves in local charity bodies. Currently he is an active Board Member of Yayasan Salam, Yayasan Anak Yatim Malaysia and National Tourism Council of Malaysia. He is also the National Chairman of the Malaysian Red Crescent Publicity Committee.

DATUK TENGKU SARIFFUDDIN TENGKU AHMAD

Datuk Tengku Sariffuddin started his career as a Journalist at the News Straits Times, Johor Bahru in 1987. He was transferred to NSTP headquarters Kuala Lumpur in 1991 where he was assigned to the general desk covering political and social events.

In 1997, he was offered the position of Press Secretary to the then Education Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and thereafter he continued his services when Datuk Seri held the position as Deputy Prime Minister and currently the Prime Minister. Datuk Tengku Sariffuddin is currently the Press Secretary to the Prime Minister of Malaysia and Director of Media Division.

NIMMI KAMAL

Nimmi Kamal is the newly appointed Head, Corporate Affairs, Malaysia, effective from 1 February 2015. Nimmi joined Standard Chartered Bank, Malaysia in 2004, and has held a number of roles within Corporate Affairs since, in Pakistan, the UAE, Bahrain and the Philippines.

Nimmi brings with her over 18 years of experience in Communications and Marketing across a number of different sectors. She is a member of the Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Executive Committee (EXCO).

LIZ KAMARUDDIN

Liz Kamaruddin is the Senior General Manager of Group Strategic Communications for PETRONAS. In this capacity, Liz has overall responsibility for PETRONAS communication strategies and corporate brand management. Liz has an in-depth expertise in various practices, including brand management, corporate and government relations, corporate social responsibility (CSR), media relations and internal communications.

A communications veteran with over 25 years of experience, Liz have worked for various companies across industries, including aviation, telecommunications, hospitality and Technology. Outside her professional scope, Liz champions social initiatives and continue to serve as a Board of Trustee of Standard Chartered Foundation that was established to identify and channel financial support to deserving community programmes in Malaysia. Liz also sits as the Chairperson for the Steering Committee for the Malaysia’s premier CSR Awards - The Prime Minister Hibiscus Award.
